Tuesday, June 11, 1929. MRS. MAGGIE HUMPHRIES, 59, wife of J.C.C.HUMPHRIES and mother of MRS. J.E. CARTER and MR. M.D. HUMPHRIES, both of Great Falls, died at an early hour Monday at her home in Greenville. Funeral services were conducted this morning at the Judson Baptist Church at Greenville, conducted by REV. F.W. HAYNIE, who was assisted by REV. R.O. WEBB. Interment was made at Edgewood cemetery at Greenwood. ------------------------------ Monday, April 30, 1929. MT. PROSPECT ITEMS MR. J.H. LIGON and family of Chester, spent the weekend with MR. and MRS. J.R. YOUNG. - MISS HEPPIE FERGUSON of the Welcome, N.C., school faculty spent the weekend with relatives in Winston-Salem and Raleigh. - MR. and MRS. J.W. MORRISON and family dined in Chester last Sunday with relatives. - MR. and MRS. J.E. BROADNAX, MR. A.B. BROADNAX and MISS JANIE BROADNAX of Taylors, spent the weekend at the home of MR. S.H. FERGUSON. - MRS. E.J. REID , who is quite ill recently is slowly regaining her strength and is now visiting her son, MR. HOWARD REID. - Quite an enjoyable occasion was a dining at the home of MR. and MRS. G.H. LIGON last Wednesday. The honor guests being MRS. A.J. GROSS, MR. S.H. FERGUSON and MRS. S.J. ANDERSON of Draper, N.C. These 3 being the children of the late STEPHEN R. FERGUSON and JULIA ANN CULP. The only absent member of this group being the late MRS. NANNIE F. JACKSON, of Corsicana, Texas, the mother of MRS. LIGON. As a brief of interesting family history we would like to state that these were reared on the old FERGUSON estate, which was granted to their great- grandfather, STEPHEN ADAM FERGUSON and BETSY FINLEY, by King George111, of England. The grandparents of this group were WILLIAM YARBOROUGH FERGUSON and 25 guests present representing four generations of the family of the late STEPHEN ROBINSON FERGUSON and JULIA ANN CULP, whose mother, NANCY JORDAN, came to this section from Plymouth Rock. - MISS EUNICE JORDAN, of Mooresville,N.C. and her sister, MRS. RATTEREE, of Rock Hill spent the weekend with relatives. --------------------------- Tuesday, May 14, 1929. U.D.C.'S ENTERTAIN CONFEDERATE VETERANS The Chester Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy entertained the Confederate Veterans of Chester county at a dinner on Friday at the First Baptist Church. The members of the Chester Rotary Club were also guests of the dinner. Only 19 Confederate Veterans are now left in Chester County. They are : W.B. AGNEW, W.B. CAMERON, SAMUEL CAMPBELL, A.W. DARBY, JOHN DIXON, ABRAHAM GIBSON, L.H. GRANT, H.F. HOLLIS, S.B. LATHAN, WADE LA GRANDE, S.T. McKEOWN, J.W. SANDERS, W.R. SIMS, J.W. SMITH, DR. J.J. STRINGFELLOW, W.D. TOMBERLIN, A.W. WISE and J.F. WOODS. Capt. DENIS ROOKE, the dare-devil aviator and lecturer at the Redpath Chautauqua, was a guest of honor at the dinner. MRS. J.R. CARSON of the U.D.C., also made an interesting talk. MR. S.B. LATHAN, one of the veterans, spoke for his comrades. A lovely musical program was rendered by the Chester high school chorus, assisted by MR. ARTHUR CORNWALL, MISS EDITH COLN and MR. W.P.
