"Carolina Spartan" Issue: August 13, 1884 This is a good year for finding old money. Mr. F.M. HARVEY near Rich Hill found an old Spanish coin in his field being the same inscription as that of last week, but dated 1772. It is about the size of a half-dollar. Issue: August 20, 1884 Mr. Claude W. TURNER came in from Lakeland, Polk County, Fla, last Saturday morning on a short visit. He went there last March to grow up with the town. When he settled there and began to open the streets, he and his hands were the only inhabitants, but they now number one hundred and fifty and lots have gone up like a rocket. The monument, erected to the memory of Rev. J.G. LANDRUM at Mt. Zion church was unveiled last Wednesday in the presence of about three thousand people. N.N. HAYNES has been quite sick for six weeks. He is still very weak and is able only for a short walk. It will be some time before he is ready to resume work. The largest peach we have seen this year was sent to this office by D.B. CALDWELL, of Campobella. Miss Gertrude TUCK, a little orphan, seven years old, living with Mr. Jackson TUCK, knits stockings and lace and crochets **dies and other articles with great skill. She sews beautifully and has pieced up a quilt without any help. She is a little wonder with the needle. G. Wash BOMAR, Esq., of Greenville, is visiting his son at this place. Mr. and Mrs. Randolph ODEM, of Marlboro county, are now visiting the family of his brother-in-law, Mr. John M. DANIEL. free post Lisa
