Vacant lot on Dewey avenue, 70 + 140-$200. ----- BIRTHDAY DINNER Wellford, March 8.- MISSES JULIA , SALLIE, and WEBB HOWE, entertained Feb. 27, at their home here, celebrating the 86th birthday of their father, WILLIAM HOWE. He is remarkably vigorous for one of his age, and is a wonderful old gentleman in many ways. What he reads, he retains and it is quite a pleasure to converse with him. On Saturday, Feb. 27, several guests assembled to partake of the bountiful refreshments supplied by his daughter. Those present were MISS JULIA HOWE, eldest daughter , DR. BLACK and wife of Spartanburg, MISS VANNIE LONG of Greenville, MISS MAMIE MILLER of Tucapau, ....etc. [ too many to type, if you want copy , let me know]. ----- COTTON MILL NOTES Feb.14.- J.T. NANCE is the new overseer of carding at the Newberry cotton mill. - J.T. ATTAWAY has resigned at Raeford, N.C. and is now connected with the Newberry cotton mill. - S.C. WHITAKER has resigned as overseer of weaving at Jonesboro, N.C. and returned to Bessemer City. - HUGH F. LITTLE from Spartanburg has taken a position at the Oconee Knitting mill at Walhalla, S.C. - J.E. HELMS has been promoted to second hand in twisting in Marlboro mill, No.4 at McColl, S.C. ----- FOR RENT- Two confortable furnished rooms, sleepers preferred. MRS. L.J. DILLARD of Spartanburg was again in town. - GUSS KELLER of Greer was here last week. - CHARLEY McMAKIN of Wellford was here on business last Friday. ----- LOCALS FROM LANDRUM Landrum, Feb.11- Last Sunday while attempting to board a moving train, BARUM THOMSON, had a close call. He fell almost under the train. - MISS SMITH, who received the shot at Bennett's school house last Monday, is suffering. She too had a close call. Just an inch more would have proved fatal. The shot are too deep to be extracted. - MR. JENNINGS, the liveryman, is to operate a shingle manufacturing machine. - J.R. BISHOP is operating an automobile here. It is likely he may, save some horses being driven, as he has applied for license to haul drummers.[ Is that hard to understand , or is it just me this morning :} - A car of whiskey was side-tracked here Friday, on its way to Asheville from Salisbury, N.C. It attracted a great deal of attention. MOSS HAYS came up to look after it.
