Spartanburg Herald,Tuesday.July 4,1911 Trotting Sallys Son Gets the First Marriage License The First Marriage License issued in Spartanburg County went to Charles Ernest Mullen,a Black, the son of "Trotting Salley" so called because of his delusion that he is a horse. Mullen and his bride-elect Leila White went to Probate Judge JJ Burnett's office yesterday and obtained the license,for which Mullen paid the $1 fee.Mullens age is listed as 29 and the age of Leila as 24 years.Both live at Brannon near Boiling Springs.
