Another tidbit of info about James Monroe from my dad follows: "He was killed by William Brown, supposedly the brother of his wife, Lavinia, with a singletree or singletree bit. William Brown escaped to VA but was later cleared of murder charges by Lavinia Brown Rhodes." I am also interested in updating my list of children by Benjamin Freeman Rhodes and Mary Ann Crow. Thanks, Ken Rhodes My note: Nancy Lanford could not have been a second wife if Lavinia Brown Rhodes testified for her brother who had already killed him. I do not believe there was a Nancy Lanford that married James Rhodes. I think they mean Lavinia Brown was the d/o Nancy Lanford and John Jesse Brown. I would love some input from someone in the know.
