MEXICAN VETERAN IN FINAL REUNION Henry Easler , 88, Served Also In Confederate Army Jan.30- HENRY CALVIN EASLER, Sptbg.Co. veteran of the Mexican War and veteran of the Civil War has answered the call for the final reunion. The old soldier died yesterday at his home near Cherokee Spring after an illness extending over two months. Up until that time, though feeble by the weight of many years he fought the grim reaper into four score years and eight. The funeral services were held today at Mount Pleasant Bapt. church, by Rev. W.P. SMITH. The deceased was one of the best known among the surviving members of the Confederate gray and his death has caused gloom to fall upon the new rank and file. MR. EASLER distinguished himself in two wars by his heroic valor. He received a head wound in the siege on Mexico City. He carried the ball which pentrated his body to his death. He was twice married, his first wife being MRS. JANE CANTRELL, who died about 40 years ago. His second wife was MISS LILLIE{ ?Dilie} SPROUSE. The deceased was born near Cherokee, Feb.13, 1825 , almost 88 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 children; GEORGE W., Cherokee Springs, and MRS. EMILE TATE, Cherokee Springs and MRS. NANCY ELRIDGE, of Drayton Mills. MR. EASLER drew a pension from the government because of his service in the Mexican War. ----- January 20.- The funeral of FRANK C, FOWLER who was found dead in bed at his Charles street home on Friday was held this afternoon at Oakwood cemetery, conducted by the rector of the Church of the Advent. MRS. FOWLER and her daughter arrived in the city early on Sunday morning from Boston, where they received the sad news announcing MR. FOWLER'S sudden demise. ----- January 20.- RUBIE LOUISE GLOVER, aged 27 months died at the home of her parents, MR. and MRS. P.T. GLOVER, near Whitney after a short illness. The funeral was held at Liberty church, conducted by REV. E.L. ARCHER. ----- BRUTAL ASSASSINATION OF JONESVILLE FARMER Feb. 1- Following the brutal murder of ROBERT R. COLEMAN, a farmer aged nearly 80 years at Jonesville, last night. COLEMAN was shot in a manner similar to the way in which E.D. SMOAK was killed at Cedar Springs several weeks ago. Last night he was in his little cottage alone when an unknown man crept up to ---shutters, fired a shot with a shotgun..the load took the top of his head. His grandchildren returning and finding his body , spread the alarm. J.C. ROBBINS, who is connected with the state penitentiary and who owns the blood hounds, left Columbia this morning arriving at Jonesville. The dogs were put on the trail... it is stated that 'Uncle Bob' had never known to have an enemy in the world. He together with his wife with some grandchildren, kept the little house alone. He was universally popular. This is the third killing in this section. First, MR. SMOAK , then J.A. EDGE was killed at Herberts. No arrest has been made in either of those cases. ----- January 31.- AGED LADY SERIOUSLY BURNED MRS. BETSY McABEE, w/o JAMES McABEE, who resides near Stone Station, was fatally burned yesterday . She was passing to and fro in front of the fireplace when her clothing caught fire and only the work of her husband saved her from instant death. He was severly burned in his attempt to extinguished the flames. DR. LANCASTER, states that the burns are likely prove fatal. ----- Free post- nancie
