Author: mlsmith67 Surnames: McClurken, Lindsey Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.southcarolina.counties.spartanburg/5363/mb.ashx Message Board Post: While researching in South Carolina this week, I found references to a Richard McClurken (probable father of my Elizabeth McClurken who married Micajah Lindsey) in the book Loyalists in the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution. He was on 2 pay lists for a Tory unit called the 96 Brigade. I'd like to know more about this unit, and other units from the area which fought for the British. Also, I haven't found out what happened to Richard after the war. Was he killed? Did he have to leave the state? I know that many Loyalists were stripped of their citizenship and had their lands confiscated after the war. Was Richard one of these? Jane and her 5 daughters, including my Elizabeth, were still there in 1785 when Jane was granted land in her own name in the same area (near Woodruff) where Richard got land in 1773.
