The file # is the probate file number and the date is the date for the probate record. Most of these probate records are for the woman's father. The husband and wife's names are given because the woman is inheriting from her father. Sometime it is the only way to prove a marriage for a woman because SC did not keep marriage records until 1911. Page Lee Dear Page, I appreciate so much your clarification on listings in the Langdon book. Following that, shall I assume that Wm N FOSTER m. ________ Walden and that the probate file for Mr. Walden did not refer by name to his dau, but only named her husband. _____ Walden - William N. Foster File 2749 Lived 1845. Again, thank you for your time and patience. Hi Judy- Yes- I think that is how you should read it with one small correction. I think 1845 is the date the probate was filed and therefore most likely the year of Mr. Walden's death.
