I am trying to connect a David Floyd born in either SC or NC in 1794 or 1795. He is my Great-Great-Great Grand Father. He married Jane Cathey in Henry County TN (later to break off in to Benton County TN. They are married with 2 female children in the 1830 census, Henry County, TN. This David Floyd traveled over the mountains to TN with 1 or more siblings. The age/birth date seem a little off for it to be related to this conversation but thought I would ask the question? Author: AnnHarwellP Surnames: Smith Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.southcarolina.counties.spartanburg/5373.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Mickie, I searched the Reidville, Spt. Co., SC 1900 census and found Ollie Smith, Male, age 18 born Sept 1881 in SC. He is in the house hold of Josephus Smith and wife Jane, born in SC June 1832 & April 1839 resp. There are two sibs in HH...Avaline 41 yrs. & single & John S. age 21. It records they had 12 children and 9 surviving in 1900. Then in the 1850 census I found Josephus age 18 born SC in 1832 in HH of A. Smith and wife Nancy both born in SC age 53 and 49 resp. There are several children listed as sibs of Josephus. I didn't find A. & Nancy in the 1860 Spt. census. Nor did I find Josephus there; so they may have moved or died early. If either of them lived beyond 1913 a Death Certificate required that year by the FEDs would give the parent's names. Apply in the state of their death by obtaining a form from SC.gov (or whatever state they died in). Ollie should have one which would prove who his parents were for certain and give you the maiden name of his mother. In SC the archives in Columbia have these records for easy access as does the Spartanburg library. Thought your Smith might connect to my Peter Smith line whose descendants move to SC from Westmoreland Co., VA but didn't find anything yet. There is another prominent Spartanburg Smith line from PA and I have lots of data on it but didn't see a connection at this time. 3. Friday, December 27, 1929. OBITUARIES Woodruff, Dec. 26 - ALFRED P. PARKER, 55, died at his home here early this morning. Funeral services will be conducted at Friendship Baptist Church tomorrow by the Rev. C.B. PRINCE, who will be assisted by the Rev. C.L. BOYTER. Surviving are his widow, who before marriage was MISS SYLVIA GWINN; a son, HENRY; 3 daughters, MRS. JOE SWEAT, Columbia, MRS. ETTIE PARHAM, Spartanburg, and MISS MARIE AIKEN, Pauline; 3 brothers, W.H., W.B., and A.J. AIKEN, all of Spartanburg, also survive. ------------- Sunday, December 22, 1929 STONE HORSE THROUGH, Relic of a Vanishing Era, Is Forgotten As Motor Age Advances Inroads by Bill Gaines The last monument to the usefulness of the horse has been removed from the ken of the majority of citizens of Spartanburg who once saw it as they went about their daily business, and by now is probably forgotten by those persons who formerly gained their greatest pleasure from a slow-gaited ride in a surrey behind old Dobbin. The stone trough, with graceful streams of water flowing from its sides, that once stood in that part of Morgan Square directly west of the monument of Daniel Morgan, is still within the limits of the city, but its glory has been tarnished and its prestige allowed to wane as it stands in silent contempt of its horseless surroundings. Not bitter, but rather sorrowing over the day gone by, its slow, ruminative flows of water point out the beauties of Cleveland Park at the juncture of the three main throughfares of the recreation center. Years ago, before Spartanburg had taken on its atmosphere of mechanical impediment , J.F. CLEVELAND and JOHN B. CLEVELAND erected the trough in its former spot in memory of their father, that the horses, them prominant , of city and county might find surcease from thirst at its brimming sides. For many years it served its purpose... No longer does its waters ripple merrily; no longer does the reflected sky reach that azure stage of the olden days. Time has not dealt kindly with the trough. Its day will come and if there is a heaven for horse troughs that have performed nobly and well, the Cleveland monument will be among the blessed. ------------ nancie o. - share, don't sell.

    3. I am looking for anyone who may be researching the Forrest families in the New Prospect area. My g-grandfather was William M. Forrest who married Martha Bullington in 1857. The 1860 census shows a Cinderella Forrest and possibly son, Thomas, living next door. In 1870 William had died in the War Between the States and Cinderella was in the household of Louisa & William Reagan in Campobello Township. At Cinderella's death in 1875 she was listed as the widow of Henry Forrest who had fought in the War in Florida. William & Martha had 3 daughters......Selena, Talulah (my grandmother) and Victoria.
