    1. [SCSPARTA] W.V. BELL Confederate Veteran
    2. Article from the 'Confederate Veteran' magazine, dated June, 1924. WILSON VINCENT BELL, aged 82 years, died at the family home near Luling, Texas, on January 21, 1924, and was laid to rest in the city cemetery. He was born at Spartanburg, South Carolina, Feb. 21, 1841, going later to Adairsville, Ga., where he enlisted in the 8th Georgia Battalion, under Gen. Joseph E. Johnson, serving as sergeant throughout the war. He was married in 1868 to MISS MISSOURI MOORE, and his second wife was MISS MARTHA ABERNATHY, who survives him, also 13 children. Comrade BELL was one of the pioneer citizens of Caldwell County, going to Texas in 1879. He was a man who made warm friendships, and no man had more true friends than he. Having joined the Baptist church in 1865, he consecrated his life to God and practiced his religion belief in the daily works of his life, serving as a deacon in the church almost from the time he united with it. Services at the grave were conducted by the Odd Fellows Lodge, of which he had been a honored member for a number of years, and loving hands tenderly laid away this mortal remains under a mound of beautiful flowers, attesting the love and esteem of all for this good man who had passed to his reward. --- page 274 Free post- nancie

    2. 1932 SHERIFFS COW FEED TAKEN Dec.19- Wanting cow feed is one thing and stealing it from the sheriff is another, county officers said yesterday when they arrested Coleman on a charge of petty larceny. At milking time yesterday morning it was discovered that all the sheriffs cow feed of beet pulp , kept behind the county jail had been stolen. The snow had melted the snow to the consistency of what is known as a 'tracking snow' and chief of Rural Police, O.L. BRADY and Deputy Sheriff B.B. BROCKMAN, took up the trail. After following the tracks to a building on Wofford street, they found Coleman in the act of feeding some beet pulp to a cow which he was ready to milk. Not only did they arrest him but made him carry back to the jail the beet pulp he was charged with stealing. ----- MEMBERS OF OLD FAMILY Union, Dec. 18.- MRS. A.H. FOSTER, widow of CAPT. A.H. 1. [SCSPARTA] Old photographs
    2. I recently discovered some old photographs dating back 40-60 years ago. Apparently, they were friends of relatives of some of my kin. I would like to make contact with anyone who may know of or know the wherabouts of these people and understand the connection. Hopefully, some will still be living due to the ages of the people in the photographs (i.e. 22 months, etc.). The following are the legible names on these different photos: - Harriet Wells Allen - William Thomas Shealy - John William Callahan and sister, Mary Callahan - Robert Wofford Seiffert with his children, William (Billy) and Bobby - Mrs. B.C. Yager - H.S. Grummond (a male in what appears to be a firefighter uniform) - Hanna Binstein (baby picture with a note stating that she was born in Chicago My relatives were from the Spartanburg area and I believe most if not all these people were from this area or had some tie to it. If you know any of these people please contact me via e-mail. Thank you. Mike

    3. Hello again. A woman I believe to be the Elder sister of my Grandfather JOHN Q ADAMS, was named BETTIE J ADAMS apparently owned a house [possibly her parents house as she was the eldest and perhaps the only unmarried child] in Campobello Twp, Landrum, Spartanburg Co. as late as the 1910 census. She was not there in the 1920 census, so probably had died or in any case moved away. I would like to find more info on Great Aunt Bettie. Perhaps her parents names for instance. Since I know that Bettie J Adams was living Landrum 1910 would there likely be a probate record of her real property when sold or devised sometime after that but before 1920 when she is NOT in the census? And if so can this be accessed ON LINE or how can it be checked? I do not live in SC. Is there an address for such requests? Thanks for any help Steph Powell Cecil stephaxi@mindspring.com

    1. [SCSPARTA] Spartanburg Co Census 1870.
    2. Stephanie Cecil
    3. Hello..... Does anyone here have easy access to the 1870 Census for Spartanburg? I thought I had some info from it , but now can't find it. Or is it on line somewhere that I can search myself? I am looking for my ADAMS family and think I may have different names than I checked before. Father,[my great grandfather]-- if living in 1870 --should have been about 40-45. First Initial may be Q or O or C. and Mother, who was head of house in 1880, was listed then as "Ann M. Adams, widow, age 54" so would have been 44 or 45 in 1870. Her tombstone in Landrum Cemetery has been reported as reading..... "Millie Ann Adams w. of Q B{?}" " b.May 8 1826, d.July 15 1897" I wonder if the "Q B" is clear or if it could be other letters. Their only son was named John Quincy [b.1852]but then so were half of the Adams boys born in that century. it seems. Three of their five daughters were living next to each other in Campobello in 1900 census and two were still there in 1910, Bettie Adams and Adolphia Adams Wright. Thanks for any help.
