Hi Everyone: The gateway for the Spartanburg Bulletin Board has been opened to the mailing list. This means that any posts to the bulletin board will automatically come to the mailing list. This gateway only works one way though so the postings to the mailing list do NOT post to the bulletin boards. I am excited about this because so many of the people who post to the bulletin board are fairly new to genealogy and have just started their research while many of the mailing list folks have been researching for a long time so I think the potential for a good exchange of information is great. If you see something that is gatewayed from the bulletin board that you would like to answer, just click on the hyperlink to the board and you will be able to post it there or e-mail the person back directly. Have a great day and happy hunting everyone! Janet Moore

Dear Listers: I am hoping that someone on the list will be familiar with, or will be able to assist me in locating information on Pinkney Pryor b. about 1848 in NC. I located him in 1910 in Spartanburg, living with his son George D. at age 70, as a widow. Of course, I am trying to locate information on his parents and his marriage. In order to do that I need to find his death information (I think). His wife's name was Susanna. I'm trying to locate her maiden name. She must have died between 1900 and 1910 in Spartanburg Co., because she is shown with R. Pinckney Pryor on the 1900 census at age 54. I can not read the names of the children with them on this census. I could not locate him on the 1920 census, so I'm guessing he died between 1910 and 1920. Is there anyone out there that can help me in locating some information? Karen P.S. If I can return a favor, I am a lookup volunteer for census records 1850-1930 in the State of Indiana.
This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Stanford Classification: Marriage Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EgB.2ACI/635.1.1 Message Board Post: You say you have information on the Stanford Family? My Great Grandpa was in the civil war. My family come from N.C. as well as S.C. Maybe Tennessee. Names I am interested in are, W.J. Stanford, W.W. Stanford and B.B. Stanford. I am from Spartanburg, SC. Thanks for any help you may have.
Nancie, I appreciate that but Im going up to my parents in Spartanburg in two weeks and had planned on going to the library and retrieving this obit. I found it in their archives. In fact, Ive got a list of about 20 obits to get. Perhaps Isaacs obit will list his parents, because I have no idea who they were. I cant find Minnie Elizabeth Henderson Beaty though. Since I have no clue of when she died Im kind of lost. I called Greenlawn, who now manages Daniel Morgan Memorial Cemetery in Cowpens, and they had no record of either burial. But, he did say they only took this cemetery over and didnt mention who used to run it. The family is going to place a marker on those poor unmarked graves this year. Im speculating that Minnie died somewhere between my Grandfather Beatys marriage in 1925 and Isaacs death in 1954 ..30 years, Yikes! Speculation on Minnies death: Isaac and Minnies last child born: 1915 Isaac abandoned Minnie and their three children: Year unknown Their eldest son, Willie Beaty married Effie: 1925 Isaac married Bessie: Year unknown Isaac and Bessies son born: 1944 or thereabouts Minnie buried first: Year unknown Isaac died: 1954 Pat Beaty Webster
Bingo! Theres my Grandparents. >WILLIE BEATTY, 21 and MISS EFFIE HARVEY, 19, of Gastonia >were married by Judge Hicks, March 14. This is nice to see a wedding announcement for them even if I already knew this. I see they spelled their name Beatty in this listing instead of the Beaty they went by. Im looking for Willie Beatys Dad, Isaac Franklin Beaty, r. w, b. 12/3/1882 d. 4/14/1954, buried at Daniel Morgan Memorial Cemetery in Cowpens with a temp marker to this day, and his first wife, Minnie Elizabeth Henderson Beaty, r. w, b. ? d. ?, buried beside Isaac without a marker. It seems there was a falling out between the family and Isaac and because of that nobody talked about them. Sure wish they had because they are my brick wall.

Myra was born circa 1852 I believe Minerva's occupation is given as washer woman. I need help locating her husband and parents. There is the possibility that she was married in NC and her husband was killed. At any rate, she ended up in Spartanburg Co and has at least three children. If anyone has her in their lineage, PLEASE advise!!!!! I would like to know if she is related to Isaac Crocker who also shows up in the Census. Also, if there are any African-American descendants of the Crocker family or African Americans who can identify John Simpson who was living with Myra Crocker in 1880 in the 1880 NC Census. Family legend says that Minerva Crocker was a light-skinned African American lady who married a white man named Crocker. Myra's son looked more American Indian than African American> ANY assistance would be VERY much appreciated!!!!!!
Does a Wingo out there know the national origin of the name? I know they have married into my ancestors from Spartanburg and Greenville and I've always been curious. Surnames: Poole/Pool/etc, Richardson, Hawkins, Satterfield, etc. Thanks in advance, Judy

May , 1920. SAMUEL SHIRLEY entered this world on the 22d of February, 1842, and having lived worthily for almost 78 years, he was laid to rest in Concord Cemetery at Woodward, S.C. on Feb. 12, 1920. Responding to the call of his country, SAMUEL SHIRLEY enlisted Feb. 23, 1862 as a member of Company H, under Capt. J.H. BROOKS, -S.C. Regiment. He was wounded at Drewry's Bluff and was in the brigade hospital at the close of the war. Once when Col. U.R. Brooks was badly wounded young SHIRLEY gave him what assistance he could render. Meeting at a Reunion many years afterwards, Col. Brooks gratefully remembered the kindness and they became great friends, keeping up correspondence until death intervened. Returning to his home and devasted State after the surrender, MR. SHIIRLEY took up farming as his life work. A mementous event in his life occurred on St. Valentine's DAY of 1867, when he and MISS PEGGIE DUNBAR united their hearts as one. Now their children and children's rise up to call them blessed. He was a consistent member of the Baptist Church. Ever loyal to the cause for which he fought, he loved the 'Confederate Veteran' , and as long as he was able to see he read and reread each copy, and had been said that he doubted whether any other subscriber came as near reading every word in it as he did. In reply to the List Member looking for a J.F. Hayes buried at New Prospect, I find only one Hayes named in the survey. It is J.P. Hayes, which, of course, that second initial could have been read as F. or P. on other records. The dates on the grave marker are 1858 - 1900. Could this be the same one?
