    3. 1935 AGED VETERAN IS TAKEN BY DEATH Woodruff, Aug. 15- ELIOTT W. DENDY, 98, one of the few surviving members of Company F, 14th South Carolina Regiment of the War Between the States, died at the home of his daughter, MRS. J. DOWNS CASEY, near Woodruff tonight. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at Rocky Springs church. The Rev. P.S. McCHESNEY, the Rev. C.L. BOYTER and the Rev. T.J. TOUCHBERRY will conduct the services. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Dendy was the oldest Confederate veteran in the Woodruff section and was widely known. He had lived near here for many years. He was born in a log cabin near Providence church at Vanceville, Laurens County, Sept. 14, 1837, the son of the late SILAS and ELIZABETH DENDY. At the outbreak of the War Between the States he enlisted in Company F, 14th South Carolina Regiment but he fought in only a few battles. He was attached to Chimborazo hospital and Augusta hospital in Richmond, Va., during a large part of the war. MR. DENDY was a successful farmer and carpenter in this section and was remarkably active through-out his life. He never wore glasses and until 5 years ago when he was attacked by rheumatism, carried out his work as usual. He married MISS MARGARET JAMES TEMPLETON in 1869 and from the union sprang 5 children, only 2 of whom survive. They are MRS. CASEY and MRS. ALVIN J. LAWRENCE, both of near Woodruff. Mr. Dendy is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Six grandsons will serve as pallbearers; LUCAS CASEY, EVANS CASEY, HOMER DENDY, EUGENE LAWRENCE, JOHN and CHARLES LAWRENCE. --- Free post- nancie --- Nancie O'Sullivan --- drayton5@earthlink.net --- EarthLink: It's your Internet.

    1. [SCSPARTA] Lindseys in Spartanburg
    2. Philip Lindsey
    3. Hello Judith, I saw this message on the Spartanburg Rootsweb list. Didn't recognize your name from any prior correspondence, so I thought I would try to drop you a line. I am a Lindsey from a line that appears in Boone County, Missouri about 1832... very, very early for Missouri. There are two Lindsey males, Willis Pinkney Lindsey, born 3-20-1826 in Spartanburg, SC, and his brother (?) Leasel Littleberry Lindsey who was also born in Spartanburg, but (alternately) in either 1812 or 1814. Both are buried in Missouri, and Leasel is buried by his mother, Elizabeth (Warford... or Wafford, Wofford) who was born in SC in 1789 and died in 1866. I have looked for these men's ancestors for twenty years, and have come to suspect that they originally came from NC or VA (possibly Surry County, NC). They patented beside each other but took opposite sides in the War between the States. The name Leasel has always made me think there was a connection to the Beardens, while the Pinkney name (used for several generations) has made me wonder about Bobos or Lees. It seems I've found about every other Lindsey line from Spartanburg but my own. Does any of this tie to your family. There are many family names in the Boone, Mo Federal Census of 1830 and 1840 that are SC names (Bostick, Wingo, etc.), so maybe I will get lucky. Best To All, Phil Lindsey

We know from the 1850 & 1860 S. C. census that Mila/Myra was given the CROKER aka CROCKER surname.... She was not on the 1870 Spartanburg Co SC census with her mother so she had already gone to N. C. . check the N. C.Polk or Rutherford Co. census for her under the name of Myra Crocker or Croker.. Working as a Domestic Servant , she mostly likely didn't have a first husband or Zach could have been the father of her first 5 children then finally married her. That did happen back then...as well as today.... For more information concerning her being a "DOMESTIC SERVANT" go to <http://genforum.genealogy.com/mcentire/messages/237.html> .
