Hello RBarnett, The Barnetts and my Whites, Fosters, and McDowells from the Spartanburg area of S.C. were related. While I don't have much info on the Barnetts' line, I do have some info that shows how they married into my White line, etc.. I also have some info on the Fosters and McDowells that was copied in 1906 in Pacolet, S.C. by my great grandfather Rev. Wm. Henry White and a McDowell cousin of his from their "grandmother McDowell's family Bible" which was at that time in the posession of a Jovan Barnett, a cousin of my great grandfather's. I have my White, Foster, and McDowell family lines from me back to when they came to America if you are interested. Perhaps in one of them is some info that might be of help or interest to you, expecially the Whites. Let me know if you are interested and I will send them to you. I also have the lines of my Barclay and Stenhouse lines who also settled in S.C.. Take care, David Middleton Edelen II ----- Original Message ----- From: <RBarnetteJr@hotmail.com> To: <SCSPARTA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 29, 2003 1:01 PM Subject: [SCSPARTA] Barnett or Barnette in SC > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Barnett > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EgB.2ACI/2671 > > Message Board Post: > > My father was from Cowpens, SC. on 6/16/03 I sent a message asking for information on Grey Buck "William Tolleson and did not put the correct last name which is BRYANT. His name William Tolleson BRYANT sometimes referred to as "Grey Buck". Does anyone know why? He married Lucinda KIRBY and they are my 3Grandparents and the parents of 2Grandparent Reuben Calvin BRYANT who moved to Hall Co., GA and married my 2Ggrandmother Elizabeth "Ebitha" PATTERSON. I am interested if anyone knows more about the TOLLESON family and to the location of some of their places of burial. I did recieve one reply and we hope to share information on the BRYANT family. Sorry about the mistake. Lennis Zimmerman

We're back! "The Carolina Spartan" Issue: June 7, 1882 About two weeks since a strange little white girl, about ten years old, appeared on the streets of our city, and attracted the attention of some of our citizens. She said she had no father or mother living, and that she had come from Union County, had been living in the family of Mr. BOYD. She gave her name as Sallie GOODIN. The County Commissioners sent her to the Poor House. Issue: June 14, 1882 Court will convene here Monday the 26th instant, Judge COTHRAN presiding. The following persons have been drawn to serve as petit jurors for the ensuing term: Ballenger, James S. Ballenger, J.T. Bearden, C.C. Brandenburg, W.D. Brannon, A.J. Brannon, W.H. Brown, Ransom Caldwell, Daniel R. Chapman, M.D. Collins, James A. Cooper, J. Dodd, H.J. Durham, Andy Foster, F.F. Gary, James W. Hadden, Jas. H. Husky, L.D. Hughston, T.F. Harmon, John S. Harmon, J.S. James, Daniel Lancaster, Jno. A.P. Lee, John C. Martin, A.B. Miller, S. Crawford Miller, W.T. Monk, R.B. Mullins, Dudley Morgan, W.L. Nuckles, Columbus Richardson, Thos. W. Tinsley, Eber White, R.P. Yarborough, Daniel Young, Joseph, Sr. Issue: June 28, 1882 Professor WOODWARD and his wife will spend their vacation in Virginia. At this time they are in Richmond. Prof. D.A. DuPRE went to Newberry last Saturday to visit his birth place. He will have an opportunity of seeing which has made the best development in the last 28 years, Newberry or himself. Wm. G. BLAKE left immediately after Commencement for a Northern trip. He went in the company of his Texas cousins. Miss Mattie BLAKE, Mr. GIBBS and his sister. Mr. W.E. CAPERTON, of Coleman County, Texas, and a student of the Theological Department, is on a visit here to his brother, Mr. J. H. OLIVER Mr. M.M. GAINES, Sr., and wife, of Knoxville, Tenn., are on a visit to their son, M.M. GAINES, Jr., and will remain here several weeks. Mr. J.W. AUSTIN is visiting his father at this time. He comes from Atlanta where he is reading law in the office of Hoke Smith, a distinguished lawyer of the Atlanta bar. Miss Eva and Alice AUSTIN, daughters of Col. James AUSTIN, of Plainville, Gordon County, Ga., and Mr. Benj. McC. [sic] GOLDSMITH, of Atlanta, are in Spartanburg, the guests of Dr. W. H. AUSTIN. Mr. W.B.S. BEARD, of Alabama, has been visiting his brother-in-law Mr. COFIELD, of this place. A rare citizen appeared on our streets last Saturday, Williams Greene GORE by name. He is a venerable looking man in his 69th year and lives near Cross Keys, in the edge of Union County. The strange part of this worthy citizen's life is that being in twenty four miles of Spartanburg he has never visited the place until the other day. He said he had heard of it but supposed it a little straggling mountain town and did not know it was half so large. He was named after the hero of King's Mountain and General GREENE. Fincher MEANS an embryo citizen of Union County, about 17 years old, has come to grief here in Spartanburg. He came here a few days ago and instead of attending the Commencement and listening to Dr. DEEMS talk about the superstitions of all the ages, he successfully proved that his digital extremities known as "corn stealers" had a strong affinity for certain articles of merchandise which he found lying around loose in several of our stores. Detective Jonas B. KING, thinking that the aforesaid FINCHER was a little crooked, arrested him and placed him in the calaboose last Tuesday. After he had been there awhile he confessed to taking the goods and announced it as his intention to carry them back home. He has been committed to jail to wait for the kind attention of Solicitor DUNCAN at this term of Court. The arrest and fastening the guilt on this young man reflects credit on Mr. KING's shrewdness. Lisz, my dear, I believe you are a bit mixed up, "Grey Buck" William Tolleson surname was "BRYANT" ,ie: WILLIAM TOLLESON BRYANT. His mother was Nancy Tolleson , daughter of John and Amy {Anne} Muse Tolleson, his father was Rueben Bryant... Wm. Tolleson Bryant was the husband of Lucinda Kirby. and as far as I know they died and were buried in Spartanburg Co. possible around Pacolet. I , too, am a descendant by their daughter, Bernice Elizabeth {Betty} Bryant who married Miles Crocker. regards; Evelyne Crocker > Anyone have information on Grey Buck "William" TOLLESON married to > Lucinda KIRBY of Packolet, SC?
