    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: WILLIAMS, VARNER, GOSS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EgB.2ACI/2711 Message Board Post: Elizabeth Williams b. 1805 in Davidson Co. NC. (Rowan)marries Eli Varner b.1795 in Davidson Co. NC. Rebecca is their only child (supposedly)b. 1826 in Davidson Co. NC. Rebecca marries Juke Alva Goss b. 1820 in Davidson Co. NC. (fAMILY FOLKLORE WAS; REBECCA WAS A FULL-BLOODED CHEROKEE INDIAN. However, I now find out her father, Eli Varner was of German descent. His parents supposedly John Varner Jr. and Rebecca Davis. Does anyone know if Elizabeth Williams Varner was a Cherokee Indian which would make Rebecca half-cherokee. Rebecca moves to Missouri with her husband and the Goss family. However, I now learn she is buried in Lick Creek Baptist Cemetary. Did she return there after the death of her husband? Why? Eli Varner evidently divorces Elizabeth Williams Varner as he remarries twice to a Bell and then another Bell. Elizabeth Williams Varner dies years later than Eli Varner so divorce must have been the case. Can anyone please help me with this information. The abo! ve are my ancestors. Thank you.

    1. [SCSPARTA] Fort Prince Question
    2. Janet Moore
    3. Hi Everyone: I received the following e-mail from a Spartanburg researcher. I don't know the answer to his question and I am hoping someone on the list might. Thank you in advance for your help. Have a safe and happy Labor Day! Here is the e-mail: In 1957 my grandfather[ Osier F Ezell ] built a brick house on Mt Zion Rd .he had 14 acres I explored about every weekend I went there. I came across a large rock monument in an open field covered with vines. I cut the vines away cleaned around it. I visited it as often as I could and kept the weeds trimmed. I do not remember what was written on it but it said FORT PRINCE. I know where it is but it may be on someone's land. There was something in the paper a few years ago when they where building Fort Prince Cemetary. Do you have any information about it? Thank you. BUTCH SMITH

    1. [SCSPARTA] Adams, Bettie, and Wright, Gist & Adolphia A 1910
    2. Stephanie Cecil
    3. Hello listers. I'm back again. Someone some time ago told me that on the 1910 Census for Landrum or Campobello twp Spartanburg there appears a listing for 1]Adams, Bettie, homeowner, F Single, age 50 with her neice Mamie Fisher age 20 and nephew Hector Fisher age 19 , both single. and next door a listing for her sister and husband 2] Wright, Gist W. homeowner, M Married 34 yrs age 57 and his wife, Wright, Adolphia Adams age 49 I have lost the Email that describes this entry and unfortunately it is the last I know of my Grandfather Adams family--he died in 1919 leaving no Father or Brother so I have only the Adams name to work with. [ Their Mother died in 1897 Millie Ann Adams b. 1826 buried in Landrum Cem.] The same person said that in 1920 Bettie did NOT appear at all and Gist Wright was there with a second wife and her children...so apparently both sisters either died or moved away between 1910 and 1920. I would like to know if it is possible to find anything about these sisters from the description of where they lived in 1910... The property must have been sold or devised at some time. Where could I locate that? And Assuming one died in Spartanburg in that time , was there likely to be a Death certificate issued? and where would it be available.? [I live in another state] I have no clue as to their Father's first name. In the 1880 census Bettie was there with three sisters and one brother [my Grandpa John Q , just before he migrated to Florida ] and their mother "Ann M. Adams Widow ,age 54". So I have no idea of their Mother's maiden name either. I will much appreciate any help with this family. Regards Steph Powell Cecil stephaxi@mindspring.com
