Vivian: I have a few abstracted records from Dry Creek but the only item from the time period you mention is a list of the founding members and neither Cates nor Daniel is included. Dry Creek Church has good records on microfilm at Furman University. Perhaps they are available on interlibrary loan. John Cates migrated to Butler County, Alabama, Fort Deposit area after 1820 census and died there in 1826. About 1881 Martha Cates of near Fort Deposit, Butler County, Alabama, made a War of 1812 pension application on the record of her husband, John Cates, which was rejected because he was not found on the militia rolls. Also not found on militia rolls in modern day research in South Carolina although he was the right age and place. She stated that she was married to John Cates in Edgefield about 1815 by Rev. DeLoach. Rev. DeLoach helped found and preached at Dry Creek Baptist Church, a still active church out from Ward, South Carolina. My husband's branch of the Cates migrated from Alabama to Lufkin, Angelina County, Texas about 1888-89.
