I definitely don't have Preston James as the s/o Daniel and Catherine and really doubt that is true. They did have a son named James, but he was b. closer to 1811. Besides, Catherine would have been in her 50s by the time Preston James was born in 1829. Thanks, Bonnie

    1. [SCSALUDA] Re: Edgefield Dist
    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. In 1800, the records would be Edgefield Co. or Abbeville Co. The Old Edgefield Dist was separate from Old Abbeville Dist and they were original Districts formed from the Old 96th District. It was not until 1895 and after that the other counties were formed from Edgefield and Abbeville: Saluda Dist was formed, and in 1897 part of Edgefield and part of Abbeville were formed into Greenwood. In 1916, part of Abbeville and part of Edgefield became McCormick Co. So records as early as 1830 would be in Edgefield Co. SC. Wonderful explanation of county development ca be found on the following site: www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3837/sc_countyhistories.html Good luck. Billie Jones Camden, SC My Edgefield Co, SC Surnames - most back to at least the 1790 EC, SC census. Later in Saluda, Greenwood, Edgefield and Aiken Cos. Bryan/Bryant, Burnett, Carter, Coursey, Dean/Deen, Gentry/Jentry, Holloway, Hill, Kirkland, Loveless, May, Mitchell, Rotton/Rauton/etc., Reynolds, Rowe/Roe, Scurry, possibly Withers. Also: Hardy, Rivers, Watkins who were in Edgefield for a short time before moving to the Warren Co., Ga area. -----Original Message----- From: Jim Savage <savage1@ayrix.net> To: SCSALUDA-L@rootsweb.com <SCSALUDA-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, June 13, 2001 8:45 PM Subject: [SCSALUDA] Edgefield District? >Did old Edgefield District become a part of Saluda or Greenwood counties?
