Sumter, During 1780, 1781 and 1782, he was a private, sergeant and horseman under Lt. John Huston, A Capt. Turner and Col. Richard Winn. He was also a horseman under Capt. Hugh Stuart, Cols. Lacey and Brandon and was severely wounded in the battle at King's Mountain.
