Surnames: MITCHELL Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/CdB.2ACE/212 Message Board Post: My 2nd great-grandparents Sam & Ermeline MITCHELL migrated (in their late 60’s) with their adult children and families from Sumter Co, SC to Gainesville, FL in the early 1900’s. In the surrounding census pages in 1910, I find others from SC, some of the names traceable to Sumter Co, SC. I’d like to commmunicate with some others whose family members migrated there as well. In addition to seeking possible relatives, I am currently researching some of the reasons for this migration – the specific forces that may have enticed them to leave Sumter Co, SC and the factors that made Gainesville attractive to an African American family.
