    3. Hi -I noticed your reference to Dye. They were very early in western PA, but my interest is their connection to the Rathbones. Do you see a connection? Please email me at my address instead of the SC forum. I will be unsubscribing to this for a few days today. 1. Ancestry vs. genweb donated records
    2. TreeMother
    3. Hi All: I just want to make one or two suggestions regarding records. We do not have to depend upon Ancestry. When you have a document you can post it to the county genweb page. I think sometimes the document can even be scanned. If we build up the state and county genweb pages perhaps Ancestry and other for profit outfits will stop thinking they are the sole proprietors of genealogical records. For those of you who are handy, creating your own webpage with documents that can be linked to Google will open doors for many researchers and lost family members. If you do create a webpage and place documents on them, please do not leave out non-family names. Your document may be the chink in another's brickwall and they will be forever grateful to you. 3. Hi everyone, I am not a frequent contributor but enjoy reading about SC genealogy. I am sort of new to family history and have received quite an education by you experienced people. Some people complained about the ones, unhappy with ancestry's profit motive and lack of correction. I enjoy all the chatter. I have been active in a Vietnam Vet group for the past 5 years after hating everything military for the 35 previous years. As a 21 year old draftee in 1965, I hated everything Army for the next 2 years but now an old man at 61, wish I had remembered more about my both horrible but yet noble and funny wartime experiences. I have made contact with over 150 guys in my unit and find it especially rewarding to be with and share our memories. We try and focus on the positive things and push aside the many negatives. Without internet resources, I would not have been able to find phone numbers and addresses. I have never paid Ancestry a red cent and never even used the free 14 day trail. maybe someday I will, but there has to be a big improvement and an all inclusive price of around $50 a year to get me to subscribe. But I also want to thank the genealogy family for helping me with my family history in the past and maybe, just maybe Phyllis Horry will share some Horry info to see if I can tie in my Smith line. In the past I have had help from genealogy buffs in locating some of my combat brothers and especially with the families of our Vietnam KIA brothers who never received the proper closure. Thank you all for your kind help in the past and I hope in the future. 3. Tree mother I think you have a great idea this would be great for us that can not pay for Ancestry and do not have a way to get to facilities such as court houses.
