Hello, my name is Lena & though I have several roots that lead back to South Carolina there is one family that has been such a brick-wall that putting a chink in the wall seems impossible. My G4Grandparents are Milton & Jane DOUGLAS Boyd through John Matthew & Mary Elizabeth BOYD McCrary to Dr. William Rufus & Frances Helena 'Lena' PINKSTON McCrary & finally Luther Hill Sr. & Helen MCCRARY Sr. 'Monie' Randall (my great-grandparents). Milton was born 07 April 1804 in Chester District, SC died 30 September 1875 Meriwether County, Georgia married Jane about 1832 (probably in SC), born 20 March 1804 Chester District, South Carolina died 10 March 1878 Meriwether County, Georgia. They are both buried in City Cemetery which is located in Griffin, Spalding County, Georgia. CHILDREN: Margaret Catherine Boyd married William R. Edge Keziah Boyd married William W. Sasser Mary Elizabeth Boyd married Dr. John Matthew McCrary John William Boyd married Eliza B. Williams (Col.) Joseph David Boyd married Emily Alford My problem is carrying the family back from Milton & Jane to their roots in South Carolina. There is a William Boyd who married a Keziah PORTER whom I wonder about since Milton & Jane named a daughter Keziah, but only two children (Nancy & Hugh M.) are mentioned in his then Keziah's Revolutionary Pension Application. As well, Keziah & William Sasser named a son Hugh Boyd Sasser, & uncle John had the middle name of William. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to carry Milton & Jane's roots back to South Carolina. Oh, I subscribe to the Digest, so forgive me if I do not respond promptly. Lena, I do not know if this helps but there is a very active group on both of the Boyd family lists. I too am descended from Boyds from South Carolina and it is very difficult tracing them back. This knowing where they are buried and where they lived. My branch was largely displaced when the Catawba was dammed up. The name repetitions make it difficult to distinguish between families and it helps to have exact dates although many of the small cemeteries in the area are not listed on line. I an a direct descendent of William "Squire Billy" Glenn and Elizabeth Boyd Glenn. I am also descended from Thomas McGill Boyd and Terzah Clarke Faires Boyd. I am not certain whether these are the same family or two separate lines of Boyds. Good luck in your search. I know my grandmother's uncle was William Monroe Boyd (Buster Boyd) because my mother and her siblings knew him but there is either another group that is related to me or there is another man with the same name and di! fferent birth and death dates. It is very difficult distinguishing fact from fiction. Nancy Jane Smith Ward
You might look at Horry County, SC. There are Edge, Sasser, Alford, and Boyd families there. I too have a Sibel Boyd in my family and know almost nothing of this line but with so many names common to Horry County, it seems likely there is a connection. I looked in several books, Hirsch mentions a James Boyd who had an excellent vineyard, did not name any relatives. A book on my Palmers mentions a Dr. William Boyd who is the s/o of Dr. John Boyd and Susan M. Richardson of Williamsburg ( County - S.C). Sorry I could not come up with more. You might try Dee Thompson who can usually come up with answers when no one else can. d7777@att.net She is always willing to help. We all appreciate her.
