A number of Collingtons living in the Charleston area around that time were characterized as "mulatto" or "negro" some remaining well into the 1900s. This surname is rare am-ong African Americans. Pockets of Collingtons have settled in Clairton, Pittsburgh, and Allegheny;PA, Albemarle, Bolton, and Colombus;NC, Chatham, Savannah, Summerville, and Richmond;GA, even Florida - all originating from SC indicating a connection.
