Thank you very much for taking time to send your message concerning <<Elizabeth Robert Jaudon Chovin Chicken: A Survivor>> by Virginia Gourdin, which was written for the Huguenot Society transactions. [For some reason, unfortunately, I did not note the date and issue of the transactions in which this appeared.] She was William Chicken's second wife, so far as I have been able to ascertain. The maiden name of his first wife, also Elizabeth, has not been found, but I believe it is Hentie. Her daughter, Catherine [my ancestor], in a later baptism of her child in Florida stated - or as it was so interpreted by the priest - the name to be Hestil. When her mother died, Catherine was only 2 years of age, so her memory of her mother - William Chicken's first wife - would not be good. I base this assumption of the name Hentie on the fact of the closeness of the SC Deputy Survivor John Hentie to the Chickens, Balls and Serres. He is somewhat of a <<mystery man>>, who died with one of the Elias Balls as the executor of what little he had. I know of no will nor settlement of his estate except that which Ball took over. It is interesting that earlier Hentie possessed several lands in SC. Again, I very much appreciate your writing and your help.
