ABSTRACTS OF THE WILLS OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA 1740-1760. Compiled and Edited by Caroline T. Moore, The R. L. Bryan Company, Columbia, S. C., 1964, purchased from Appleton's Books & Genealogy, $40.00 Do you see an abstract of a will for Peter (Pierre) Villepontoux, Jr., wh had married Frances L'Escot ?? He was born in 1684 in Bergerac, Dordogne, France & died on 25 Apr 1748 in South Carolina. I have seen an abstract of France L'Escot's will, but not of his. I'm curious about his given name, since what I have seen shows him as Peter, Jr. & not as Paul. There are some posted pedigrees showing his name as Paul. His father was the emigrant, Pierre Villepontoux, b: Abt 1643, Bergerac, Dordogne, France and died 1711, St. James Parish, Goose Creek, Santée, Province of Carolina. From the following source: "The Huguenots of Colonial South Carolina," p. 20-21, "Goose Creek" According to an incomplete enumeration preserved in Mrs. E. A. Poyas' Peep into the Past, the following were tax payers at Goose Creek in 1694. She says: "I have seen assessment of the inhabitants of Goose Creek, for January 1694, which gives property as follows: Peter Villepontoux, Madam Elizabeth Gaillard, o2,234; Peter St. Julien, for Louis Pasquerau o350; Francis Guerin, Peter Guerin, Abraham LePlain, Gideon Fisherau (Foucherau), Benjamin Marion, Mr. Mazck, Moses Moreau, Benjamin Godin." If Peter was born in 1684 in Bergerac, I'm sure from the above item written about taxes assessment, that Peter Jr. was not the individual she was writing about, but his father. Therefore, I definitely want to see an abstract about Peter Villepontoux, Jr.'s will. His wife died 26 Sep 1753 in Charleston. I would also like to see an abstract of the will of the son of Peter Villepontoux, whose name was Paul Villepontoux. He was married to Mary Gantlett. I think that they may have had about 5 children? I would like to knoww all of their names, since I've read that there was a Charlotte W. Villepontoux, & a Rebecca Villepontoux, who must have been the children of his son, Paul, Jr. Elizabeth
