Jane, Chester County was part of Camden District until c. 1798. The 1790 census lists Chester County as a separate subdivision for Camden District. Take a look here for evolution of counties with maps: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3837/sc_countyhistories.html It's part of the SCGenWeb state pages. We also have the 1790 federal census online for all districts and counties: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3837/SC_census.html All of the original, handwritten 1790 census files are available as images files, as well as the "printed" published files. In addition, some of the counties/districts have been transcribed and are available through the SCGenWeb Archives as text files.
