Please excuse the multiple postings. If you have seen this, just delete it. About a month ago I bought the Land Grant Maps Book from the Union Co. Historical Foundation. This map book is a great buy for anyone who has multiple lines in Chester, Fairfield, Newberry, Union, Laurens, Spartenburg, and Greenville Counties. I had never heard about the book until an email genealogy friend of mine said that it was the best genealogy purchase that she has ever made. She was right!! Here is some information about the Land Grant Maps Book (22 in. by 16 in.). There are 24 maps in all that show the original land grants with names. The maps are usually dated in the mid to late 1700s to early 1800s. If your ancestor was born after 1815 or 1820, he was probably to young to have had an original land grant covered in the maps. However, some of the early deeds mention the original holder of the land grant. The maps cover parts (not all) of Union , Fairfield , Newberry, Laurens, Chester, Spartanburg, and Greenville Counties. If you have several families in these areas, it is certainly worth the buy.
