You need to address your email to the following. Note the word "request". If you are subscribed to the list mode, instead of digest mode, then change the "D" to and "L" .If you don't know, send the email to both. It won't hurt. _SCROOTS-D-request@rootsweb.com_ (mailto:SCROOTS-D-request@rootsweb.com) _SCROOTS-L-request@rootsweb.com_ (mailto:SCROOTS-L-request@rootsweb.com) Good luck

RE: Surname Phonetics You think that's bad...my family name is spelled POU..or POW... or POWE...or POUE...or PON...ad nauseam Marjory in Charleston ================================================================== Agreed. So far I've also seen the surname "POE"...as: PO, PEW, PUGH, PUGHE and changed from PFAU to PO and POE My husband is part of the George Jacob PFAU line...that went to OH from MD, c. 1795-1800 and by the time they arrived it was...POE. His is a Swiss > German > PA Deutsche > M > OH migration pattern. Surnames aren't the only thing that has been phonetically changed. How many ways do you think they've spelled "Lorraine"?? [example: Loraine, Lorane, Lorany, Laurane, Laurany, Lurany] Remember, between the european languages, gaelic and no set way to spell....anything...it's always...."phonix izz soe mutch phun", Lisa __ -- No virus found in this outgoing message. I would like a copy of the Friends of the Quaker Cemetery Thanks in advance, Ed Harbin
Just guessing, but could that be also spelled PEW? Susan
Pou from Orangeburg?
You think that's bad...my family name is spelled POU..or POW...or POWE...or POUE...or PON...ad nauseam Marjory in Charleston
Good afternoon: A subject that comes up every so often in terms of Surnames usually. I have seen it several times in the last few weeks. We need to remember that while the spelling may be a clue, that what's important is the phonetics. I had this brought back to me today when looking over a 1795 KY Deed. Same name, clearly one individual, three different ways all in one document; " Joshua Berdits, Joshua Berdetts, Joshua Burdetts". In one of my family lines this is common; "Mounce, Mounts". Have FUN! Walt
My great-grandmother was married to a Noel Roberts in Duval Co., Jacksonville, Fl on June 21, 1882. At that time, she was 24 years old. I believe that Sutton was not her maiden name. I believe she was married to a Sutton then Noel Roberts. She was supposedly from York, Co., S.C. If anyone knows a Sutton married to an Elizabeth and the something happened to Mr. Sutton, please email me. Kathy Thompson _Kjt54@aol.com_ (mailto:Kjt54@aol.com)
I noticed your reference to the Allen-Deloach combo below and wondered if you have any information connecting them with the Christie family? I am researching Christies and will be glad to exchange.
