Hi ALL, I have not posted in a while and I very much need your help. But first please let me apologize to any of you who may be on more than one of the lists I'm sending this to as you unfortunately will receive more than one copy of this message. I am looking for the parents of Elijah WADE. Here is what I know about Elijah: Elijah WADE b. abt. 1804 SC. Elijah WADE m. Rebecca HAMES on 12-30-1823 in Hall Co GA. Rebecca was the dau. of John HAMES and Charity JASPER. Elijah and Rebecca lived in both GA (prob. Hall Co) and SC (prob. in Union, Cherokee or Spartanburg Co) as they had children b. in both states. In 1830 Rebecca and the four oldest children can be found in Jackson Co AL. Elijah was living with William KING in Spartanburg Co SC at the taking of the 1830 census. This William KING was very active in the Big Creek Church in the 1790s. In 1840 the entire Elijah WADE family was living in Morgan Co AL. At the end of 1840 this part of Morgan Co AL became part of Marshall Co AL. In 1850 and 1860 they appear on the Marshall Co AL census. I can find no record of Elijah and Rebecca after the 1860 Marshall Co AL census. Known children were: 1. Elizabeth WADE b. abt. 1825 GA m. Nicholas BLAKE in 1842 Marshall Co AL. 2. A son (don't know the name) b. abt. 1825. 3. Margaret WADE b. abt. 1827 AL m. John BLAKE in 1842 Marshall Co AL. 4. Nancy C WADE b. abt. 1830 AL m. Jesse MATHIS in 1847 Marshall Co AL. 5. Martha A WADE b. abt. 1833 SC m. Claiborn C. WATERS in 1854 Marshall Co AL. 6. William WADE b. abt. 1834 AL (my gg-grandfather) m. Catharine CRAIG in 1855 Marshall Co AL. Catharine CRAIG was the dau. of Leonard CRAIG 7. A son (don't know the name) b. bet. 1836 -1840. 8. twins Elijah WADE Jr and Elisha WADE b. abt. 1842 AL. Elijah Jr m. Eliza BLAKE More info: My Elijah WADE was not the son of David Bingley WADE. David Bingley WADE was b. 2-18-1755. David's son Elijah was b. bet. 1791 and 1799 (prob. 1791). My Elijah WADE was b. abt. 1804. Several census show Elijah as being born in SC. I would very much appreciate any help with finding Elijah's parents and I thank you for your patience. Eldon WADE

Hi All S.C. Roots members: I wanted to let all the members know that my manuscript on the history of Charles Town, 1670-1700 is ready for purchase. Some of the details about the book are: Title: From England - To Barbados - To Carolina, 1670-1700: Recovering the Material Culture of First Generation Carolinians. Author: T.C. Farris, a Charlestonian. Currently resides in Alabama- Abstract: History of the first 30 years of the founding of Charles Town, South Carolina. This manuscript of the first 30 years of the Carolina Proprietary colony looks at the years 1670-1700. The first colonists to arrive were mainly from Barbados by way of England. Fifty surviving probate inventories from this period provide a new dimension into the colony's material and cultural beginnings, which historically have been largely misunderstood. T.C. Farris, the author and historian recently completed a Master's degree in history with specialization in colonial history of the 17th century. Book: 185 pages, with color graphs and charts, size 8 1/2 X 11, spiral bound. Cost - $35.00 includes first class shipping. How to order: send check made out to T.C. Farris - History Book, 12002 Huntcliff Road, Huntsville, Alabama 35803 if you would like to charge the book to Mastercard or Visa you may call (256) 650-5210 and leave name, address, phone number, and charge card information, or you may mail the information to the above address. I look foward to hearing from anyone interested in this period of our history and sending you a copy of the book. Best regards, T.C. Farris tessf@earthlink.net
Dorothy, Yes, there is a town of Ninety Six, SC which was the seat of the Ninety Six District. Star Fort is on the outskirts of this quaint little Town, and each year in the spring and fall they have a re-enactment there. It is a National Park and has lots of history. The first battle of the revolutionary war was fought there. The original town of Cambridge was close to the Fort. http://www.nps.gov/nisi/ is the Website to see. Also, you may enjoy my webpages below. Please feel free to ask any questions regarding Ninety Six or surrounding area. Hi I am trying to find the Gilchrist family in Union county SC can anyone help? Thank you Fred
Hi folks, I would like for all JORDAN and FOWLER researchers to take a look at the Missing Jordan Siblings page on my Jordan page at my website. I am trying to help two sisters locate two long lost siblings. They are also trying to work their family line and in the process, are also trying to locate the two missing siblings. They were separated due to adoptions. I have listed what is known of their JORDAN & FOWLER lines in hopes that that might trigger someone who may be able to help. You can reach the JORDAN Page by clicking on this link: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cranford/cathy1.html Thank you very much for taking the time to look it over for us. If you see a connection to my JORDAN Line, please contact me. Mine is separate from these two ladies or at least I think it is. Would be neat to find that it is not and that we met by chance in this manner.
