Hi All, Am sending this to lists and individuals looking for some type of concise (if possible) answer to this question: How long after a child's birth in the early/mid 1800's was said child baptized, if at all? Example of what I am looking at is as follows: child baptized 29 May 1814 was born in what month as church records list the child as an infant. I have found a grant for John SMITH of 250 acs, situated in Camden District laying on a small Branch of Guyen moore's Creek, bounding on all sides by vacant land, 23 June 1774. River's Account of the Raising of the Troops for Confederate Service in South Carolina is the best source for identifying what troops were formed in each county. I have not had the opportunity yet to create a county cross-reference for South Carolina like I have on my Georgia site, but I do have most all of the men who served from Edgefield County on my web site. The two sources of this information are Chapman's History of Edgefield County and Toole's Ninety Years in Aiken County. John Rigdon The Civil War in South Carolina http://www.researchonline.net/sccw
Can anyone tell me what the U.C.V. might be? I have found a ribbon (like our high school spirit ribbons). It is red and says U.C.V. Charleston Apr 20-25,1896 1861 Reunion U.C.V. Thanks for any assistance Pat
List, Is there some in Bamburg County who can check on a will for me? Please let me know what your fees are. I need a copy of the will of Aaron Copeland. I have been told that there is a will for an Aaron Copeland in Bamburg, but I cannot go down there to check on this. Aaron Copeland died in 1838 or 9. Patsy
U.C.V. stands for United Confederate Veteran - similar to G.A.R. or Grand Army of the Republic - both organizations for veterans of the Civil War, or War Between the States if you're UCV! You're fortunate to have such a nice find. It would have been from their annual reunion of veterans. Sandy

Hello All, Have found reference to the following Sharp's who became deceased for one reason or another during the War of Northern Aggression and looking for more information on them and the two ladies listed after them. J. Sharp (possible this is J. D., but I am not sure nor do I know anymore than Newberry County, J. D Sharp, served in DePass' Artillery Company and Preston Sharp, served in DePass' Artillery Company. Also have reference to a Mrs. W. S. Sharpe (NFI) who was an exhibitor on the Newberry County Fair Grounds. The second lady is Mrs. Lucy (Welch) Sharp, sister of William and Williams Welch who came to Newberry County from Iredall County, NC. She came to South Carolina in 1850 and died in 1856. She had two children, William, one of Anderson's best citizens, and Mrs. Neville, wife of Rev. Mr. Neville of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Source document for these is: THE ANNALS OF NEWBERRY, SOUTH CAROLINA (PARTS 1 & 2) - John Belton O'Nell, LL. D & John A. Chapman, A. M. (1892) Also have information on Vashti (Sharp) ((Gaines)) Burress if anyone is interested in her. She is the daughter of Robert Clemons Sharp and Est(h)er Hawthrone. Have a Nice day :-) walt ============================================= "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." reported to have been said by Edmund Burke
