    3. ADAIR, DILLARD, JONES and PRICE are my families from Laurens Co, SC. I have ADAIR and DILLARD information, but very little on the JONES family. I am very interested in the PRICE family. They married into the STANFORD family, who also ended up in Arkansas. Catharine Henrietta PRICE married Dr. John B. STANFORD. She was born in 1830 and died in Alabama in 1856. Dr. Stanford married again and died in 1880. Thanks for the information. I would love to know more. 1. [SC] Re: another Carlisle question
    2. Fred Carlile
    3. LaVerne, The St. Johns-Berkeley area was listed as Charleston until around 1880. Alexander Carlisle (Carlile) was on the 1790 census in Prince Fredericks Parish/Georgetown District (in an area that is now Williamsburg County). The 1790 census listed 1 male and 2 females. One would be his wife Mary and the other is probably a daughter that I have not been able to locate He married Mary Winter around 1785-90, had three sons, Alexander MC (probably McCants) b.abt.1795 d. bef.1834, David Nathaniel b.1803 d.1876, Jehu (John) b.1805 d. aft.1860 in Perry or Jasper Co. MS. Alexander Sr. acquired property in Berkeley, around Moncks Corners, in 1812. He died before 1818 and Mary was named to handle the estate. She was listed on the 1820 Charleston census as head-of-household with eight other people. In the 1830 census Alexander, David and Jehu were living in the same area. By 1840 Alexander MC was dead and Mary, David and Jehu were living in MS. Alexander's wife was Hannah (maybe Grayson) and in 1850 she is living with Jehu and wife Sarah and a 20 old Grayson in the household. David's wife was Eliza D. David moved to Vol. Co. FL in 1856, leaving an ex slave Charles Carlile with friends. He was listed as 103 years old on the 1860 census. Regards, Fred Carlile "LaVerne M. 2. Joanne Harley
    3. A friend talked me into buying RAMBLES IN THE PEE DEE, a great book on the early colonists who wound their way up the Pee Dee from the Georgetown, SC area. It mentions some of the ships that docked there and what they were unloading as well as what was being exported. It mentioned all of the casks of rum, sugar and lime juice that came in from Barbados. LIME JUICE? Does anyone know why so much lime juice? I could not relate it to sailors that used fruit to ward off scurvy . Would early colonist have had a shortage of sources for Vitamin C? By the way, it does mention a lot of early settlers and who some of the earliest land owners were. I am learning how much livestock they had. Always assumed they were all farming. Joanne H. 3. Elizabeth DARRELL was born about 1710 in South Carolina. She died 10 June 1759 at Charleston, Charleston Co., SC. She is buried at the Circular Church in Charleston. She married Rev. Josiah SMITH about 1730 at Charleston, SC. He was born 25 Dec 1704 at Charleston, Charleston, SC and died 19 October 1781. I have much information on him and his family. I am descended from their son, Josiah SMITH who was born 15 Sept 1731 at Cainhoy, St. Thomas/St. Denis, Berkeley, SC and died 12 Feb 1826 in Charleston. He married Mary Elizabeth STEVENS. Later email to follow requesting info on the Stevens family. Any information on the DARRELL or DERRELL family that might tie in with my Elizabeth would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 3. Jane, Chester County was part of Camden District until c. 1798. The 1790 census lists Chester County as a separate subdivision for Camden District. Take a look here for evolution of counties with maps: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3837/sc_countyhistories.html It's part of the SCGenWeb state pages. We also have the 1790 federal census online for all districts and counties: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3837/SC_census.html All of the original, handwritten 1790 census files are available as images files, as well as the "printed" published files. In addition, some of the counties/districts have been transcribed and are available through the SCGenWeb Archives as text files.
