Good to hear from you again. Hope you will have a chance to visit again soon. I have been searching for some clues as to where the early McCants ansestors may have been buried. So far I have found nothing. I guess the early graves may not have had a stone marker. I really feel that Nathaniel McCants father of your David should have had a marker. Have you had any luck finding his grave? Hope things are well with you. I enjoy your and Becky's sight.

    3. Since a few have requested me to post the respones to my request for info on the State Hospital in Columbia, I am posting the following two which I think will help all of us. 1) You won't be able to get any info from the State Hospital in Columbia as the records are not available to the public until they are 100 yrs old. You do know that it was a mental institution, don't you?? Used to be called the SC Insane Asylum in the 1800's. The SC Archives have records from 1838 when it was opened until the late 1890's. Only a close relative can have access to the later records. You might be close enough. You can call them and ask for the person in charge of the Archives and she might can help you. 2) I got an aunt who lived in Ga. to get a court order for the records of her grandmother. The hospital made copies and sent to us. The first thing I did was call them, and they gave me the instuctions. I have been looking over the Columbia SC phone book and find a whole page of numbers for the Dept of Mental Health. I think the hospital is located at 2100 Bull St., so I am listing some numbers that might be your first contact point. Information SCDMH - State Hospital 803-734-6546, 2100 Bull St. Information - 803-734-7038 Dept of Mental Health - Information 803-734-7766 Hope this is helps you and me get records or atleast head us in the right direction. His files have been a wonderful help to me, however, with all due respect to his wonderful works, I think it appropriate to say that some confirmation should follow his findings. I say this, as I have found some errors in my Family Line, when confirmation was done. As in any Genealogy Research, confirmation is wise for any and all information obtained. Ernest T. 3. VILLENEUVE- Sara J. Villeneuve, widow of Joseph H. Villeneuve of Chas. and Chesterfield Co, moved her family to Sumter Twp, Sumter, SC ca 1875. They are listed in the 1880 census as living on Main St. She was 42 years old and had the following children at that time John W (20), Hattie E (13), Lorenz Stoppelbein (11), Charles L. (8), and Joseph (6). DUFFIN / VILLENEUVE on 13 Oct , 1841, Mrs Margaret E VILLENEUVE (widow) marrried Mr Samuel A. Duffin of the Sumter Distr. They were married in the St John's Lutheran Church in Charleston. It is not known whether the new Mrs Duffin brought children with her to Sumter. VILLENEUVE/STOPPELBEIN There are a number of connections between the Villeneuve family and Sumter Co. In the mid 1800's Stoppelbein women married into the Moise and Hurst families from Sumter. The mother of these women was a VILLENEUVE. I would like to find some other researchers with connections to these families. I will share, of course!
