    3. I am trying to figure out what happened to widow Mary Porter (see below) and her children. In 1860 they were in Fairfield; do not know where they were in 1870 or if Mary remarried. By 1870 son Abner might have left the household. 1860 Census, Fairfield County, South Carolina, page 230, dwelling number 537: Mary Porter, age 38, female Abner Porter, age 11, male Mary Porter, 4, female Does anyone have access to the 1870 SC census? Any help would be most appreciated. Ester married in 1830 John Baker of Sumter District. They had one child Martha S. Baker. Ester died in Taylorsville, Sumter, South Carolina 1 March 1852. Believe my GGG Grandmother, Nancy Chapman French was a daughter of Giles Chapman of Newberry County, but have not been able to really nail down the facts. Nancy lived in Arkansas and I am descended from a daughter, Frances French Bagley of Independence County. Frances died in 1853. Have found lots of information on early Chapmans and am still trying to make a definite connection to Giles and his line back to Yorkshire, England. Thanks for your message and have a great New Year!     3. I have been looking for information on Fairfield County Davis family for some time. My great grandfather was Ruben (spelling?) Davis. I have been told that he lived at one time in Fairfield County. He spent most of his adult life in Newberry County and is buried with his wife, Marian Dubard Senn Davis in Newberry, SC. I am told that he was Irish and both of his parents were Irish.I see where someone else is researching the Davis family in Fairfield Cty.
