    1. [SC] U.S. Census Spreadsheet Available
    2. Gary .
    3. I have created a spreadsheet which I am using to record the mountain of census data that I have accumulated on paper over the years. I like having electronic copies of records for ease of manipulation, transport and backup. The spreadsheet would also be very useful for those of you who take a laptop to your local FHC for data entry. I have posted offers to e-mail a FREE copy to anyone interested on several genealogy lists and the response has been overwhelming. I have mailed out over 600 copies in the past week. That tells me that there are a lot of people like me who have piles of unruly census data and no good way of organizing it. The spreadsheet has a separate page for each census year from 1790-1920, as well as Soundex pages for 1880-1920...great for tracking a single family through the years. The spreadsheet I created is bare except for the formatting on each page to match the particular census year data fields. No actual census data is included. I used Microsoft Excel 97 to create the spreadsheet and I kept it simple so it should be compatible with most any recent spreadsheet software out there. One lesson learned so far. Excel 97 uses multiple worksheets, like pages of a book. Previous versions of Excel did not support multiple worksheets. You will need a spreadsheet program as least as recent as Excel 97. I have tried opening my spreadsheet with my copy of MS Works 5 and it does not work. I don't know about Works 6. I have received reports that Quattro Pro 8 works great. I've sent out hundreds of copies so far and those who have used the spreadsheet have been unanimous in their favorable comments. I have been helped countless times on various lists by people generous with their time and expertise. I'm happy to pay back those kindnesses in this small way. The response has been so big that I created a web site to allow anyone who wants a copy to download it with a click of the mouse. There is also a page featuring some leasons learned. You will also find a discussion forum for census related topics and questions about the spreadsheet. The URL of the spreadsheet page is http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~minder/ Gary Minder sdkhaki@hotmail.com _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

    3. Hmmm... I've never used an iMac so I can't help you with the problem. The http://www.scroots.org/places.html web page is a pretty basic HTML page. Not too big. Not a lot of graphics. Simple background graphic. No java scripts. Don't know what the problem might be. I can email you a copy of the page, if that might help. I put a lot of the same material on a page I created for work a while back. You might want to try this page. http://www.sac.usace.army.mil/permits/places.html Steve Coker SCRoots Forum Manager At 07:15 AM 1/2/01, you wrote: >Of all the great links on <<scroots.org/>>, my iMac has consistently ><frozen> when down loading <<scroots.org/places.html>>. 2. Hello list! I was working on my genealogy site all weekend and found quite a few good South Carolina links for historical and genealogical pages...so I created a page for South Carolina genealogy! The newest state page, in a long while, that I've created. You can see it at: http://members.tripod.com/~KHuish/southc.htm <A HREF="http://members.tripod.com/~KHuish/southc.htm">Firstmom's Genealogy Resources -South Carolina</A> Be sure to browse around the rest of the site as well. There are pages for lots of states, a few countries, ship lists etc etc. And feel free to pass the URL on to whoever you might think would get enjoyment from the site. Kathy

    2. godseys
    3. Some GODSEY researchers have two boys, THOMAS and JAMES GODFREY, arriving in the Carolinas on the frigate "Richmond" in 1680. In checking sources, I find no mention of them (or a sponsoring AMONETTE) in the paper "Foreign Protestants For Carolina in 1679" in Volume X of "The Proceedings of the Huguenot Society of London" (FHL Film #0990357). This paper has two lists of about 40 'families' and about 170 men, women, and children. The lists are constructed in such a way that the people of interest to me could have been included in a 'family'. I would appreciate advice for finding any further documents for this voyage, this time period, and these people.

    3. Thomas Hodge Green b 22 Aug 1920 Wayside, Jones County, Georgia, d Spring Creek, Wakulla County, Florida 20 Jan 2001, age 80 years. Not only were Thomas' ancestors in every major U.S. war - American Revolution, War of 1812 (Capehart), Spanish American War, WWI, but Thomas was a hero of WWII. While a Chief Petty Officer on the battleship USS Mississippi before and during WWII, he fought in the Atlantic and most of the Pacific battles. He experienced every type battle anyone could experience, including at least one hit by a kamikaze(?) plane. The first ancestor I have been able to come up with so far is William Green, signer of the Second Virginia Charter in 1609 and arrived in Virginia 1612, barely escaping the 'massacre if 1823'. His gr gr gr grandfather Georg Peter Zoellner (Zellner) , as an Ansbach soldier ranked private, fought with the British in the Am-Rev, then deserted and continued to live in the U.S. Sincerely submitted, Thomas' sister Betty Green Polombo Thomas' surnames are: Zellner, Nichols, Capehart, Holmes, Edge, Hodge, Hodges, Green, Woodall, Bryant, Funderburk, Bradley, Powell, May, Hawkins, Street, Drury, Gunn, Watts, and more. 3. It may be a case like one I came across. Family tradition had been that they were decended from DUTCH settlers because they lived at Dutch Cove. Later research showed that the "Dutch Cove" was the English version of "Deutch Cove" and they were actually from Germany.
