My Bass family has tradition that it was a french name pronounced "La Bassier'" (or "La Bassea" ('e' as in eel, and 'a' as in apple) if you're unaware of how to pronounce an 'ier" in french...). Also maybe in your searches try La Bass (space between)...

    1. [SC] New Spartanburg Deed books
    2. Larry V
    3. Those of you with Spartanburg Co. connections may be interested in the new deed books. I've included a list of my other books, as well. Genealogical Abstracts from The Carolina Spartan, 1866-1872 by Larry Vehorn. Hard cover, 210 pages, indexed. Price $30 postpaid. In this volume the reader will find all items of genealogical interest appearing in the Carolina Spartan, during the years 1866 through 1872. The vast majority of the abstracts concern events in Spartanburg and Greenville Counties, South Carolina. Besides marriages and deaths, other items are included: probates, administrations, sheriff's sales, church committees, county commissioners lists, unclaimed letters, etc. Lists of defendants in court cases often name South Carolinians who moved out of state. New Prospect Baptist Church Minutes, 1820-1855 and Cemetery Survey by Larry Vehorn. Soft cover, 134 pages, indexed. Price $20 postpaid. This book includes a transcription of the minutes of the Baptist Church at New Prospect, South Carolina, from the founding of the church, until 1855. Sometime after 1858, an ancestor of the author copied the minutes and that copy is the basis for this work. This is the only known copy of the church minutes for the time period, as the church lost all early minutes in a fire. Church minutes are often the only record for families who lived briefly in an area. Included is a survey of the over 1,000 tombstone inscriptions in the church cemetery. Spartanburg District, South Carolina, Deed Abstracts (1827-1839), Book U-W by Larry Vehorn. Hard cover, 545 pages, indexed. Price $50 postpaid. Included in this volume are abstracts of all deeds recorded in Spartanburg Dist., S.C., between 1827 and 1839. Often, deeds were not recorded until years after the transaction. The earliest deed in this volume, was executed in 1796. Besides personal names and names of corporations, the major index entries are: Brigade Orders, Cemeteries, Creeks and Branches, Places, Rivers, Roads and Streets, Slaves. Spartanburg District, South Carolina, Deed Abstracts (1839-1848), Book X-Z by Larry Vehorn. Hard cover, 529 pages, indexed. Price $50 postpaid. Included in this volume are abstracts of all deeds recorded in Spartanburg Dist., S.C., between 1839 and 1848. Often, deeds were not recorded until years after the transaction. The earliest deed in this volume, was executed in 1797. Besides personal names and names of corporations, the major index entries are: Brigade Orders, Cemeteries, Creeks and Branches, Places, Rivers, Roads and Streets, Slaves.
