Can some one tell me if there are 2 St John's Cemeteries ? Is there one in Charleston and one in Monks Corner ? I have death records , from Chas., SC on these it says " St John's Chapel ". According to family records the people were buried in St John's Chapel, Berkeley County, Monks Corner , SC. So I am confused as to which are buried in Chas and which are buried in Monks Corner, Berkeley. Thanks, CJK

Would any of those books happen to list slave names? As my Haywards are black and would have been slaves. I have heard that Hayward slave ownes kept a book at every plantation with slave names and clothing rations to it.........and that there was at least 17 Plantations owned by Haywards but tracking that down has been a thorn in my hip side.......... if you know of this please help Thanks Penni H. Transcribing The Census: There has to be a better way I have been working on my family tree since 1986 and I am tiring. #1 Why don't "we" transcribe only what we know to be true, with the caveat that we make mistakes just like the original census takers did and with the 'default' that we can always fall back to the originals. As an example, while I found an original written so poorly, that it was not until later that I learned what the childrens actual names were, so I am one of the few people who could accurately "transcribe" what the census taker wrote down. #2 Why not use the actual forms as originally used, even when we now "know better" At least that way, no-one could cook up their own forms. #3 Why not transcribe only those records of information which are of individual interest. I see no reason for anyone to go thru the drudgery of doing a "complete" sheet or county or (Twp or Post Office), while ruining their eyes and repeating errors or making new ones, simply because "they are someone elses relatives, not mine" (or even if they are diligent, they get tired) The census records might then be incomplete which is what they are now. (In fact, many "Family History Centers" shrug their shoulders when you ask for a particular census, and fall back on "the counties have changed or the British burned the records") I realize that many of these concepts can be improved upon, but I am disgusted for having paid taxes to have the census' taken and then being unable to ever put them together again I am quite willing to put my few ancestors on the census lists and I believe that many census would be completed in short order compared to those poor "volunteers that are trying to complete whole counties. If everyone who has a computer only contribute a little, we could accomplish a lot ! L&S, Robert Davis 13117A NW 8th Ave. Vancouver, WA 98685
This thank you goes out to everyone that has been so helpful on this geneology list. I have been researching my family tree for over 20 years and have just started to use the internet this past year (2000-2001) to do so. I have had the displeasure of being treated rudely on another list (Italy). It is so refreshing to know that there are people out there willing to help and to do so in a kind manner. I have posted to this list in the past and received results and I am again requesting information from anyone (new or old) who may be able to help. (I've added a few more names to research.) I am searching for the following family names: Adams - NY/NJ/Germany/? area Arnott - NY/NJ area Bogardus - NY/NJ/? area Brass - Washington, DC/? area Brickhouse - Washington, DC/? area Bucciero - Italy (Napoli) Ciccarelli - Italy (Napoli) Corley - SC area Grimm - NY/? area Harring - NY/NJ/? area Klein - NY area Port - Washington, DC/? area Roberts - SC area Salute - NY/NJ/Italy area Sarnatara - NY/Italy area Senn - SC area Sharpe - SC area Spires - SC area Tyres - Washington, DC/? area Wise - NJ/SC area ... and any more I might have missed or not come upon yet. I have started a page on genealogy.com: http://www.genealogy.com/users/k/l/e/April-Klein-NJ/index.html. I lost a lot when my computer crashed, however I do have most of my information in scribbled form. I will be adding information to that page as I am able to type it back into my computer. I have a Grace Woodall, b. ca mid 1800s, who married J. W. Gray, b. mid 1800s. You wouldn't have her in one of your Woodall familys? Their daughter Sallie Belle married John Henry Cannon about 1900 and they lived in Laurens Co., SC. Not sure where they were from. John Henry was from Laurens Co, SC. The name that always gave me fits was Titsworth. I think they pronounce it Teetsworth, but still quite a name. We shouldn't make fun.<bg> Really, we shouldn't. Are we what you would call genealogy crazy. I think I am. Blessed are they that run in circles for they shall be called wheels.
