    2. Melba Clark
    3. Emma, You give me encouragement, too. I, too, have a CLARK line. My husband is a Clark. I have been looking only since 1988. Maybe our Clarks are connected. The earliest I can find his Clark line is the 1870 census in Pickens Co. GA. James Clark is listed as 62 b SC, Tasey (or Lasey??) 54 b SC, James P 18 b SC Green 16 b GA, Lemuel 14 b GA. James and family are listed next after the father-in-law of George W. Clark. I have not located James anywhere else unless a James Clark on a CSA list in the book, "History of Pickens County" is him. In 1900, Tacey is listed as 84, widow, mother of George W. Clark, in neighboring Bartow Co, GA. George W was the father of Levi Wilford, who was my husband's grandfather. As you can tell from the census, based on the ages and birthplaces of the children, James' family should have been in GA in 1860 and SC in 1850. I sure would appreciated some help on these Clarks. Thanks, Melba in AL -----Original Message----- From: ENC6@aol.com <ENC6@aol.com> To: SCROOTS-L@rootsweb.com <SCROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, February 25, 2001 11:50 AM Subject: Re: [SC] Low point >In a message dated 2/21/2001 6:50:18 PM Central Standard Time, >lgalesanders@hotmail.com writes: > > >> I'm hitting the low point again............................Someone please >> slap me and say " don't give up" >> > >Hi Club Tweety, >Sorry - I know I am a bit behind on this one but wanted to add something... >mainly.. keep hoping and keep working. >For years I have been working on a Clark line. 3. Yeah!! Thanks for all the good volunteers!! And thanks for your insights into why we need all of the census!! I have actually completed 3 myself, and assisted with the proofreading of one that nobody wanted to touch. I also have 4 more I am going to complete. I do not consider myself a "poor volunteer". I am learning from the experience, and enjoying it, too! There are not enough good volunteers available. Good intentions do not give us results. We won't see the entire census online until those who can do it, volunteer and actually do the work. Not everybody will "place their few relatives" on the censuses, so that leaves huge gaps that hurt the whole. It is important to know who lived nearby, because they probably married into your lines in the future, so even though you think that it is only important to get the data on your own lines, you may be missing more than you know because of it. Those neighbors were involved in the lives of your relatives. They witnessed marriages, deaths, wills, deeds, births, helped to build fences, barns, etc., posted bonds and securities for marriages and probates, etc. They are just as important as those you know to be your own relatives for sure. Remember, their childrens spouses came from somewhere! Probably from the neighbors! Tina Hall

    3. Have you tried looking at the 1855 and 1860 Slave Schedules which listed the owner and then itemized by sex and age each slave owned. They are by counties. FHC probably has them if your local library does not have the census records for SC. Even if the names are not given on these schedules it may help you to discover exactly how many slaves the Heyward did own and perhaps then the Freeman Association will have further information which will provide marriage record, or work contact, etc. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: <ClubTweety@aol.com> To: <SCROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 24, 2001 6:40 AM Subject: Re: [SC] HEYWARD > Would any of those books happen to list slave names? 2. Gail, I haven't really dug into the Bobo family yet. There was mentioned in a family gathering that we were related somehow. I think maybe one of the girls married a Bobo gentleman. They lived in the Longcreek, Madison area of Oconee County, SC in the late 1800s early 1900s I think. When I do find anything I will post it. I think I did find a newspaper article, I'll look and let you know.

    3. COPY FORWARDED TO THE SCROOTS FORUM. From: "Ross DuBose" <fdubose@sc.rr.com> Subject: ALL DuBoses family reunion Date: Wed, 21 Feb 2001 22:10:58 -0500 Dear cousins, June 30th is fast approaching and will be here before we know it. For those of you who don't know yet, I have created a "reunion webpage" http://rossdubose.homestead.com/dubosereunion.html. Please visit it. In an effort to reduce lodging costs, if many of us stay at the same hotel, we could get a discounted "group rate". I have found 5 hotels from which to choose that are within walking distance of the Huguenot Church, where we plan to have a presentation Saturday afternoon. These 5 also have banquet rooms, for our dinner Saturday night and to use throughout the day as a meeting place to share genealogy notes and simply visit and get to know one another. These 5 hotels are listed on the webpage and each has a link to the hotel's webpage. Please review them and make a decision of which you prefer to stay within the next two weeks. Please make note of your choice in the Guest Book, which is on the reunion webpage. By doing so, everyone can see where others wish to stay and that may help some with their choice. If you prefer to stay somewhere else entirely, that's fine too. Regardless, please make a note of where you plan to stay in the Guest Book. This will help with getting a head count and to get an idea of when most attendees have made a choice, so we can continue with making arrangements. As always, please make any suggestions that you think will make the reunion a most memorable experience. You can send them to me, or better yet, post them in the Guest Book, so others can see them and comment or spark other ideas. There are certainly many cousins, for whom I do not have their e-address, so please pass this message on to all DuBose kin that you know. Looking forward to seeing you all. :) Franklin Ross DuBose, Jr. My DuBose line From: "Ross DuBose" <fdubose@sc.rr.com>
