I've just received a list of words that purports to be the many virus names that are to be found in either the subject line and/or message. If you receive e-mail containing one of the following - the safest recourse is DO NOT OPEN it - just DELETE it. If the message I receive is correct, you can save yourself grief and expense (and your friends, too.) Ken Robinson
To A. Sawyer <searching2@mindspring.com. I too believe that I have a Fort line and have researched a book "A Family Called Fort: The Descendants of Elias Fort of VA.", Homer T. Fort and Drucilla Stovall Jones, (West Texas Printing Co, 1970). I got a copy of this book thru interlibrary loan at my local public library. Here are the folks that I have listed. Note that I did not list the other 7 children of Elias Fort II. Now I am sorry that I did not. At the time I was only listing direct lines, but now I realize that is impossible to do, as other folks can give clues to the main line one is researching. But maybe this will give you enough to see if you think this family might be one worth checking in to and you can get the book. Get in touch with me personally and I will attach a family file containing some notes I took from the book Good luck, Billie Jones of the Fort/Rivers connection.[that I don't feel like I have proven yet.] Descendants of Elias FORT I 1 Elias FORT I b: Abt. 1631 d: Bef. 1686 .. +Phillis CHAMPION m: Abt. 1660 in England ... 2 Elias FORT II d: Abt. 1739 ....... +Sarah ......... 3 7 other children FORT ......... 3 Holiday FORT b: Abt. 1708 in Surry Co., Va. d: Abt. 1773 in Sussex Co., Va ............. +Mary FLAKE ............... 4 Mary [FORT?] d: Aft. This is one of my sites / projects. I have primarily worked on the Leroy Hammond line, but I have some additional information on most all the Hammonds of the North Augusta area. My mother's maiden name was Hammond and I am descended from Leroy. The top page for The First Families of Aiken / Augusta is at http://members.aol.com/galinahist/charts/scfirst.htm John Rigdon

In other words, when you forward an item from the "digest" to the "List", please be so kind as to change the subject to something meaningful to whatever the artical is about! Also, when one comments on a forwarded digest artical, please explain or show that which you are commenting on. It is only common sense - and common courtesy, to do so. Thank you fo your time. I would appreciate any information regarding the current reproduction of the Palmetto Cockade in South Carolina as was worn by our Secessionist ancestors during the WBTS. If anyone knows of anyone that is reproducing palmetto cockades please contact me off-list with the information. The Civil War Relic Room in Columbia and the "City Under Siege" exhibit at the Charleston Museum display originals...however, no gift shop sells reproductions. Am interested in the round type and the little Palmetto type as is shown in The Woman's War book from the Museum of the Confederacy. In addition, I am interested in a source for immature palmetto frond, before it opens up, which is the suggested state to use in baskets and presumably cockades. Sincerely, Laura Fitzpatrick
