The Appleton family of Alabama would like to learn more about the family that has roots in Old District 96 of South Carolina. A Grigsby E. Appleton married Eliza Mary Waller in 1820 in Abbeville District, SC. We are interested in learning who Grigsby's parents were as well as siblings. We have learned of a Thomas Appleton who lived in that same area in 1779 and died in the 1780's. Our belief is that Thomas was Grigsby's grandfather. There is also some connection with the Rev. Joachim Bulow (perhaps as a son-in-law?) of that same area. We would be most appreciative of any insight into the Appleton's of South Carolina of that era. Thank you. Dear Melinda: I was told that you might possible help me. I am trying to prove my Cherokee blood line. This is all I have: The 1820 Greenville Co. SC census shows Luke Crumpton, HH and one female between the age of 26-45. If this is Polly, and the date is correct, she was born aft 1775. It shows one male, Luke, Sr., over 45, or born bef. 1775. Was Mary DUKE part Cherokee Indian? Was her name "Okilley"? in notes from Ilena Brown (Avery file). In a letter dated 12 Jan 1909 : Hon Guisssom (?) Williams (?), Washington, D.C. Dear Sir, your of June 10 to ? and ? I wish to except to the rulling of this ? of claims as to the rejection of my claims ? ? to ask your of ? have this ? on which our exceptions ?. If so, please send me ? of ? at least so we can ? that we are Cherokee Indians. We can prove that we are decendents of William A Duke, and every one of our families has a William in it. We can find good nun now living who know our grand Mother was an Indian. Plese let me here from you and tell me wheather or not we will need a Lawyer in that court. Yours Respectfully, Samuel M. Avery " A copy of above hand written letter is my Avery file. This claim was rejected. >From Bibb County Heritage, by: Christia Causbie: "Minnie Crumpton was daughter of Luke Crumpton and Mary "Polly" Duke, and her Indian name was Okolley. Mary "Polly" Duke was the daughter of William A. Duke, and it was through him that several of her children and grandchiildren applied for Eastern Cherokee money in 1907. Even thought William A. Duke and his wife were listed on the Henderson Roll of 1835, all claims were denied." Melinda, if there is any expense in this research, please let me know. Hello, I saw your post last week for a look-up from someone else on the S.C. list for Edgefield. You were looking for NORTON. I have the History of Edgefield book by John A. Chapman and in it, a Norton is mentioned, but no first name. " Fruit Hill is situated 12 miles north of Edgefield Court House and immediately on the direct road from Edgefield Court House to Newberry Court House. The country around Fruit Hill is level, but the drainage is good, from the fact that it is immediately on the ridge between the Savannah and the Saluda Rivers: in fact, in time of rain the water that falls on many houses, that on the East side runs to the Saluda and that on the West side to the Savannah. The country around Fruit Hill was originally settled by the Allens, Goodwins, Richardsons, Culpeppers, Bakers, Hollingsworths, Harrises, Huskey's, Landrums, NORTONS, and Hemslys." I know it gives no first names for the family, but I hope it helps. April. Shop online without a credit card http://www.rocketcash.com RocketCash, a NetZero subsidiary
Hi all, I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but I have createda Jaudon list at Rootsweb. My interest is the early group--France and early Beaufort District, SC. My line ends at Sarah who married Jacqque Robert in 1735. But I thought those with the surname might like a forum--and I lost my hard drive so I really need to find all these ancestors in this line... Anyway, I hope those with the older Huguenot connections will stay on this list, but be able work on their later Jaudon family by means of the new Jaudon list... Happy hunting, all... Dear Jim LORD and other LORD line descendants: I will be attending the Chancellorsville, VA reenactment on Sept. 22-25, 2000, and cannot attend the reunions. I have had this trip planned for about 7 months and already made obligations with others regarding it. I am meeting two cousins in Chancellorsville, VA that I met on the internet doing genealogy research. One is from TX and one is from VA and I am from FL. We are all meeting in person at Chancellorsville. We are all reenactors and we have common ancestors from NC. Please put me on your mailing list and keep me informed of any future LORD or related family reunions. I am interested in sharing my genealogy information with anyone who is researching the LORD or related lines. Please also encourage others at the reunion to write to my webpage (SEE BELOW) and share their Quieries and information. The rootsweb network is connected to my webpage and the questions are there for future researchers to find you. I am also researching surnames of: ANDERSON, BRADSHAW, DAVIS, DOLLAR, HAYS, HAYES, LORD, MONEY, NEWTON, PEACOCK, TAYLOR, & TRAYLOR, primarily in the states of : AL, GA, FL, NC, SC, KY, TN, TX, & VA. Pat Jones Smith BRIDGETON MEMORIAL PARK Bridgeton, Missouri 1843 -------- 1963 This burying ground at 4616 Long Road was made into a memorial park in 1962. In 1959 several lawsuits were filed against the City for allowing the cemetery to deteriorate. Individual stones had already been removed "through error and misunderstanding" but members of the Bridgeton Historical Commission were able to learn the names of some who were buried there and a large monument was erected in 1963 which bears this inscription, "We honor the people buried here. They were part of this nations adventure and their vision lighted the path we follow today." At the dedication ceremonies, Mrs. Anna Wilson gave a talk about colored veterans who are buried here. Records indicate that the cemetery was integrated from its beginning in 1858. It was in use as late as 1954 and at least 100 people are buried in the two acres. On the bronze plaque of the monument are the following names: Annie Adams Auston Edwards Enoch Mumps Edward Walker Benjamin Adams Auston Edwards, Jr. Elio Phillips Kit Walker George Adams Grace Edwards Eliza Phillips Lizzie Walker Lottie Adams Katie Edwards Ike Phillips Quiller Walker Ben Alexander The Galliger Family Tilly Phillips Tommy Walker George Alexander Almiria Grannison Walter Phillips Barbara White Henry Alexander Creed Hall Bell Pruitt John White Lucy Alexander Creed Hall, Jr. The Pueroa Family Noah White Eugene Allen Hillard Hall Fred Riddle Shibina White Arthur Bassett Hiram Hall James Robertson Alice Wilson Dr. William Berry Jack Haggerty Will Rush Ernest Wilson Febie Bivens The Heidron Children Baron Scott Geroge Wilson George Bivens Lizzie Hodge Louise Scott Theodore Woodson Lizzie Bivens Steve Hodge Lydia Scott Baby Woolfolk Millie Bivens The Horn Family Laura Smith Hadley Woolfolk Rafe Bivens Nasrus Jackson Roberta Stanton Gibson Wright Samuel Bivens Amy Johnson Lewis Stevenson Hiram Wright Cosley Black George Johnson Fred Steward Mamie Wright Edward Black Julia Johnson Henry Stocker Green Young Hiram Black Robert Johnson Joseph Taylor Mary Ann Young King Black Turner Johnson Abe Thompson Skip Young Sam Balck Mr. Knight Henry Thompson Bell Carter Henry Lewis Hiram Thompson Lilly Cheeks Hal Lint Jenny Thompson Henry Clanton Luvenia Lint Mamie Tucker Fred Dickson The McClure Family Barney Vonsray Joe Duglas, Jr. Jessie Moore Texas Hall Wadlington This list was given to me by The Missouri Historical Society P.O.
