Thank you for sharing, Ruth, I found some Halls, not sure they are my Halls yet, but very interesting reading. Kit
Mary, Hi, I think we may be cousins. My grandmother's grandmother was a Glenn. To be precise, Martha Jane Glenn who married Zadock Darby Smith in SC. Her daughter was Sarah Nancy Smith. Martha Jane's mother was Elizabeth Boyd and she was married to William Glenn, the first in our family according to an aunt who used the two n's in Glenn. William's father was James Glenn and his father was John Glen. John came from Ireland w/ his wife and James was born in VA. James and John were both in the Rev War and James moved to SC, had his children there and is buried at Bethel Cemetery in York County. There are a lot of the Glenns in York Co, SC A lot are buried in the Clover area. Nice to hear from you, NancyJane PS Check out World Connect with the Craig family. There is a tie in. Hi List, I came across the below site while searching for a book. The site has bibles online from several states and each surname is clickable to view the records. Although there appears to be only one bible for NC and a couple for SC, I did find familiy members who were from NC/SC or moved there in other bibles on the site. Please note - at the bottom of the free online bible records is an advertisement for sales - I am not affiliated with this site, nor promote, endorse purchasing of any products. INDEX TO ONLINE BIBLE RECORDS (aol users - click underline) http://www.genealogy-books.com/bibles/idxbible.html (other - copy & paste) Ruth in NC
I am searching for information on the Scotts, Hobbs and Glenns from South Carolina, Pendelton Dist. I basically have most data on Glenns and Scotts, but have very little on my Hobbs. I need to find an Abraham Hobbs b. in S.C around 1790's-1800. He is my 2nd great grandfather. William Hobbs in S.C. Census 1790 and 1800 is either his father or his brother. These families left S.C. about 1803 and went into Tenn. where my 2nd great grandmother, Elizabeth Jane Glenn was b. in 1803. these families continued on into Hardin Ky., Ind, Ill, and Iowa. Elizabeth Jane Glenn b. 1803 m. Abraham Hobbs b. 1790-1800 (have no place or date). They had 3 sons and 1 daughter and Elizabeth Jane died in 1820 giving birth to that daughter in Crawford Co., Ind. If you can help me find out anything about my Hobbs in South Carolina, it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance Mary masdal@ala.net

Looking for information on John Alexander Carlisle who lived in Robeson Co. NC on the 1820 NC census close to James and William Carlisle. I am trying to tie these Carlisle's to Alexander Carlisle who lived across the line in Williamsburg Co.,SC and died in Berkeley Co., SC in 1817. Fred W. Carlile

Thanks, Jean, for sharing the newspaper notices. I could tell someone did a lot of work to share with others. Couldn't help thinking that was so typical of most of the genealogist I have run across. All very generous. Joanne H.
My husband has been very kind to set me up a web page for all the information that I have collected. Most of this is from the Freedmen's Bureau papers most notably the Restoration of property after the War Between the States. These records are on micro-film at the Charleston County Library in South Carolina. All copies were made there and then transcribed. Not all of South Carolina has been done but there are about 160 pages of information so far. I am now working on the Losses Due to the Enemy letters that survived. They are available at the S.C. State Archives in Columbia, SC. These letters are not all that were sent in but all that survived of the originals. There is also a micro-film of one of the index books referred to at the end of some of the letters. That is held by the S. C. Historical Society and I believe that the Archives may have a copy of that also. Most of these names in both records are in the lower part of the state. They are not indexed but I am trying to put them in by location. This is all the information that I have so doubt I can help anymore with a search but if your family is one mentioned there is a lot of information there. Hope this helps and happy hunting. Will continue to post the Losses until they are finished. The Long Journey Home is on my direct line of Jenkins family. Bouy www.members.home.net/bouy

Greetings, I saw a post on SCRoots and I found some information on the trible you mentioned. Below is what I have. Chapter III---The Old Settlers--- from the book South Carolina Indians and Indian Traders beginning in 1670. The Kussos On the 10th day of March 1675, the " Casseques" and Proprietors of Great and Lessor "Cassor" lying on the River of "Kyewaw" the River of Stono and the Freshes of the River of " Edistoh" deeded the tract of land to the Lords Proprietors of Carolina for a " valuable parcel of Cloth, Hatchetts, Beads and other goods and manufactures now received at the hands of Andrew Percivall Gent." These were the Kusso Indians deeding the 18.75 square miles ---12,000 acres on what is now Hwy. 61---to the Lords Proprietors of Carolina. Lesser "Cassor" was Kiawah. At that time, the Indians moved off the land between the Ashley, Stono, and Edisto Rivers. St. Gyles Cussoe became the Seigniory of the Honorable Anthoney Earl of Shaftesbury Lord Baron Ashley of Winborne St. Gyleses Lord Cooper of Pawlett. Various Indian Caciques and Captians, both men and women, made their marks witnessed by the following, John Smuth, Jacob waight, James Palmer, David Maybanck, John Walker (his mark), James Clues ( his mark), Henry Clement ( his mark ). See copy of page from South Carolina Proprietrory Grants Vol. 38, p. Stop There are maps which show the location of the 12,000 acres from a 1969 map. there is a creek called Coosaw Swamp flows westwardly into Ashley river. The neck of land between Dorchester creek and Sahley river, on that vicinity, bore the name of Booshoo in the records as early as 1682. the English settlers may or may not have learned the place name "Booshoo" from the Kusso Indians. etc, etc, etc, I hope this helps you somewhat in your question of the Casseques and Kyewaw. Sincerely Melinda T. Crowder
Hi all. I had a major computer hacker who destroyed everything on my hard drive. Someone on this list several months ago was kind enough to forward the name and address of contact person, etc. for the Beach Island Historical Society. I'm still looking for McKeen Greene's burial place and any further family information on the Greene family and that of the family in which his daughter, JANE HARRIS GREENE who married into the MICHAEL HENDERSON family. They settled first in Tattnall County GA after being married in Bulloch County, GA in 1809. Then they moved in 1814 to Screven County, GA. Any information about these two families and the Beach Island Historical Society's address...information...would be greatly appreciated! Carole Farr Drexel gdrexel1@airmail.net
