Roberts Date: 30 Nov 2000 10:09 AM GMT Email: The information was givin by Alma Roberts Crapes Prentiss. She is a descendent of the first James Irvin Roberts. I have communicated with Vina, via email. The information comes from a book of over 350 Roberts and is consistant with the documents of the family in both Polk County and SC. I do showthat James Roberts along with others was born 11/21/1784, first son of James Henry Roberts and that he is burried as aare other Roberts' aat Mt. Zion, Swift Creek Cemetary. I do not have a reference for his mother, but his wife is Temperence and I have seen her grave many times since a small chile and most recently a few weeks ago. He had 5 chilren, most burried at Mt Olive as you suggest, but William, of which I am from is burried at Green Pond, the oldest Jame Brice, buried in SC

GOD BLESS AMERICA! Hello! i am trying to identify the "book" referenced in this posting by judy crabb roberts - that contains info on rev. pierre robert... do you know which book has info on this family?? or anyone that is actively researching this family?? thank you for your time & assistance!! gail harris Posted By: Judy Crabb Roberts Email: Subject: Re: ROBERTS > TN >SC Post Date: May 26, 1999 at 14:06:04 Rev. Pierre Robert was b.1656, St Imier, Switzerland (son of Daniel b,1630, Aberystwyth, Wales) was a Huguenot preacher. He married (not a Rebecca)but Jeanne Braye, b. 1660, Basil, Switzerland. Rev. Pierre Robert along with his wife and his followers sailed to America, landing in 1686 at Charlestown, SC. They lived in St. James, French Santee, SC. In 1706 Rev. Pierre founded the first Huguenot Church at Charlestown, French Santee, SC. There were 2 entrances to the church, one for the English and one for the French. Rev Pierre and his wife Jeanne Braye Robert had three sons, Jean (John), Elias, and Pierre Jr. Rev. Pierre Robert died in 1715 and Jeanne died abt. 1717. I descend from their son Jean (John) Robert. It was Jean who changed his name to the American *John* and also added the *s* to Robert. Pierre Jr., kept the Robert name without the *s* This family is well documented.I have a copy of the old Huguenot Book from the Huguenot Society that gives all the information for this family. I also have photo's of the original Church at St. James,French Santee, One of the earliest settlements in SC. and refuge for French Huguenots. St. James, Santee Parish was a major agricultural area containing a number of large scale rice plantations. At nearby Peach Tree Plantation, Jonathan Lucas, Sr. introduced a water mill for beating rice around 1787, which gave an impetus to rice culture in the area. I also have a photo of the only Independent Huguenot Church in the US in Charleston, SC. that contains a commemorative plaque for Pasteur Pierre Robert.

The sites in the message were listed as sources of info. on County formation. They are good, but I love the graphics of the following SCGENWEB cite. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3837/sc_countyhistories.html Read and go down about 1/2 way to the map, and you can click on lots of links to get more info. The last URL given in the combination message below from several different people is a copy of the pages in the Formation of Counties book that was done by the SC Dept of Archives and History.
