To order films from the Furman Univ. Baptist Church Historical collection mentioned by Pattie below, have you public library order from the following: Baptist Historical Collections Furman University Library 3300 Poinsett Hwy. Greenville, SC 29613 To view the microfilmed records available (some churches have not copied their records), go to Web site: http://library.furman.edu./ Click on Library Services, Click on special collections, click on Church Records. Send name of Church, county, and years needed. (that information is given on the web site) I have gone thru the records of several Baptist church records from the Old Edgefield Dist and have found wonderful records of deaths, and intriguing records on family who were removed from the church for drinking, dancing, and interesting other items. Marriages can be inferred from the records. However, Baptist record Baptism records, not birth records, so that info. is not available thru the church records. I have been married 22 yrs and have two grown girls in their 20s. Living in New York City must be very exciting and studying law I sure is very time consuming not to mention teadious. I am not exactly sure how this is so, but my grandfather was David Anderson Benenhaley, who was the youngest child of Leslie Rae Benenhaley and her husband who I can't recall. My grandfather grew up in Sumter, SC and moved in 1969, with his German war bride, Christina, to Bel Air, Maryland. They had 4 children, Ruth, Shirley, Barbara and Michael. I am the daughter of Barbara and Mark Dedrich, who reside in Bel Air, Maryland. I live in New York City and am in my last year of law school. My grandfather passed away in 1982 and since then there has been little communication with his relatives who live in Sumter County today. Would love to get any information that could help piece together the puzzle.

Thank you very much for taking time to send your message concerning <<Elizabeth Robert Jaudon Chovin Chicken: A Survivor>> by Virginia Gourdin, which was written for the Huguenot Society transactions. [For some reason, unfortunately, I did not note the date and issue of the transactions in which this appeared.] She was William Chicken's second wife, so far as I have been able to ascertain. The maiden name of his first wife, also Elizabeth, has not been found, but I believe it is Hentie. Her daughter, Catherine [my ancestor], in a later baptism of her child in Florida stated - or as it was so interpreted by the priest - the name to be Hestil. When her mother died, Catherine was only 2 years of age, so her memory of her mother - William Chicken's first wife - would not be good. I base this assumption of the name Hentie on the fact of the closeness of the SC Deputy Survivor John Hentie to the Chickens, Balls and Serres. He is somewhat of a <<mystery man>>, who died with one of the Elias Balls as the executor of what little he had. I know of no will nor settlement of his estate except that which Ball took over. It is interesting that earlier Hentie possessed several lands in SC. Again, I very much appreciate your writing and your help. GOD BLESS AMERICA! Hello! I am trying to track down a book researched by Marjorie Burke on the Roberts family... I found mention of it in a message posted by Gloria Ardrey on the Roberts board... Does anyone know friends or family of Marjorie Burke? Does anyone know how to contact Gloria Ardrey? Her email address on the board is no longer valid... Would very much like to obtain a copy of this book for my research...Would gladly pay for any costs of copying, etc... Thank you for your time & assistance!!
Perhaps this is the book you may be after, although I can not say that there are over 350 Roberts covered. The book is <<Three Pioneer Rapides Parish [LA] Families- A genealogy>>, by George Mason Graham Stafford, published in 1968. I have a brief [2 page], hand written [mine], transcript [not the book] taken from this. The Robert line starts out with Rev. Pierre Robert, <<1650-1715, son of Daniel and Marie of St. Iaier, Switzerland>>. I see only a brief line to a <<James, killed in North Carolina>> in what I copied. This book apparently was being sold by Three Pioneer Rapides Fanmilies, 1744 White st., Aexandria, LA, 71301. My interest was in whatever was in the book about Elizabeth Robert, twice a widow before marrying, as his second wife, William Chicken. William Chicken, a son of Col. George Chicken, is my ancestor by his first wife, Elizabeth Hestil or, more likely, Hentie. Their daughter, Catherine Chicken, married Andrew Dewees of the PA Dewees.
