    3. Have you sent a message to the Jewish Genealogical Society? They have been working very hard on Jews in America and their history. You can find them on Cyndi's site of genealogical sources. There is a Jewish cemetery in Savannah. I would suspect your man could be buried there. Also would suggest looking at the Minis family and others who were prominent in Savannah as they would most likely have had contact either socially or in business manner with Joseph. Also in South Carolina there was a Francis Salvador who was Jewish and was a patriot in the American Revolutionary War. They may have had contact also since Savannah and Charleston are near each other and by boat easy travel. If Joseph remained a Jew, the synagogue in Charleston may have him in their records also. The term catechist has thrown me off regarding Joseph. Tree Mother "She is insane, of course. The family history has become a mania for her." Help needed Please > Dear List, I am researching Joseph (Guiseppe) Solomon (Ottolenghi) Ottolenghe who was an Italian Jew from England UK. He arrived in Georgia circa 1750/51 with his wife. In Georgia he was the super intendant of the Silk Industry, Catechist to the Negroes and a public servant & later senator of the colony in Colonial Georgia. He died in 1775. > What i'm trying to find out is his wifes name & if he had children born in the Georgia or Savannah area between 1750-1775 or if he had children born in UK before his arrival. I also need an exact date of death in 1775 & possible burial place. > Can anyone suggest where i might find possible shipping records into Georgia circa 1750/51? > Would anyone have a copy of 'Deaths in the South Carolina Gazette 1732-1775' that they might be able to check for my Ottolenghe please? > I'm also very interested in any early newspaper articles about Joseph Ottolenghe & his life in Georgia. > > Any help greatly appreciated. 3. I would appreciate any assistance in looking for the parents and siblings of Elizabeth RUTLEDGE b. 1834, Greenville Dist., SC, m. Elisha HEDDEN II. At some point after her birth, Elizabeth's family probably moved from Greenville to Pickens District. Elizabeth's husband (my great-granduncle) died of disease while serving as pvt., Co. A, 20th SC, CSA. He is buried in Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston. After his death she lived in Macon Co, NC. Hedden family legend says that Elizabeth was a direct descendant of the SC Rutledges who were signers of the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. According to that legend she was disowned by her family for marrying below her status. Any information on her family would be appreciated. >>> The information contained in this e-mail transmission is privileged and/or confidential intended solely for the exclusive use of the individual addressee.
