    3. Jane, At the Place Search, on the top line type in Marion, on the second line type in South Carolina & you will see the following: Place (Part of) Marion (South Carolina) Place search results Marion South Carolina, Marion South Carolina, Marion, Marion 2 matching places. Click on the first line, since that is the County records that you want. The second line is for the town & county. Place South Carolina, Marion Notes Marion County was created in 1798 from Georgetown District. South Carolina, Marion - Cemeteries South Carolina, Marion - Census - 1820 South Carolina, Marion - Census - 1830 South Carolina, Marion - Census - 1840 South Carolina, Marion - Census - 1850 South Carolina, Marion - Census - 1860 South Carolina, Marion - Census - 1870 South Carolina, Marion - Census - 1880 South Carolina, Marion - Church history South Carolina, Marion - Church records South Carolina, Marion - Court records South Carolina, Marion - Genealogy South Carolina, Marion - Genealogy - Newspapers South Carolina, Marion - History South Carolina, Marion - History - Indexes South Carolina, Marion - Land and property South Carolina, Marion - Maps South Carolina, Marion - Military records - Civil War, 1861-1865 South Carolina, Marion - Obituaries South Carolina, Marion - Probate records Now you can see the different subjects, and you can click on the Obituaries. Topic South Carolina, Marion - Obituaries Titles Genealogical abstracts from Marion, South Carolina newspapers, 1858-1886 Calhoun, Gloria This is the only view for the obituaries in the county at present. Otherwise, if you clicked on the town site, you would just get the following: Place South Carolina, Marion, Marion Topics South Carolina, Marion, Marion - Newspapers I clicked on the Newspapers line and got the following: Topic South Carolina, Marion, Marion - Newspapers Titles Genealogical abstracts from Marion, South Carolina newspapers, 1858-1886 Calhoun, Gloria Hope this helped you. 3. The census you have been asking about is not online as far as I know. All off year census dates are usually state census. Here is the following from the www.familysearch.org site: South Carolina - Census - 1790 South Carolina - Census - 1800 South Carolina - Census - 1800 - Indexes South Carolina - Census - 1800-1870 South Carolina - Census - 1810 - Indexes South Carolina - Census - 1820 - Indexes South Carolina - Census - 1830 - Indexes South Carolina - Census - 1840 - Indexes South Carolina - Census - 1850 South Carolina - Census - 1850 - Indexes South Carolina - Census - 1850-1880 South Carolina - Census - 1860 South Carolina - Census - 1860 - Indexes South Carolina - Census - 1870 South Carolina - Census - 1870 - Indexes South Carolina - Census - 1880 South Carolina - Census - 1880 - Indexes South Carolina - Census - 1890 - Indexes South Carolina - Census - 1900 South Carolina - Census - 1900 - Indexes South Carolina - Census - 1910 South Carolina - Census - 1910 - Indexes South Carolina - Census - 1920 South Carolina - Census - 1930 South Carolina - Census - 1930 - Indexes South Carolina - Census - 1960 - Maps In order to view the film numbers, you will have to go to www.familysearch.org and click Catalog found at far right hand side of screen. Then click on Place, and type in "South Carolina" so you can click onone of the following subjects. When the page comes up that you want, then click on Film tab. Otherwise, if you are have an account with genealogy.com or ancestry.com, you might be able to view the census that way. The only census that you can view & print a readable fully indexed census is the 1880 census found on familysearch.org. At that site you can click on household & see all the members of the family & even click on next or previous household for the same street. You can highlight the whole record for that family and print or copy it onto your Word application. Normally when one reads the year date of a census & you see that it is not dated at the 10 year time ending in a "0", one assumes that it is a state census. Otherwise, the federal census is every 10 years. One has to check on the record at familysearch.org to see if it is a state census. Some of the last states to come into the union had a few off years, because of their off year entry to the union, plus the inability of the government to foretell when or be prepared for a census of the area. Hope that helps. Good luck in searching ! Elizabeth Pt. Here it is again: My mother and I are researching Thomas H. Hodges (he is my ggg-grandfather) and she ran across a post from Kathy Hodges Young suggesting that he and Leroy H. Hodges were brothers, both born in South Carolina. Kathy Hodges Young posted this note referring to Thomas and Leroy in Feb 2004: "we found evidence that John was the Father of them both." However KHY just e-mailed my mother with not much more than guesses about the relation. You posted the following in October 2003: "Is there any one on the List that is researching Leroy H. Hodges born in 1806 raised in Laurens Co., and Abbeville the Old 96th dist. South Carolina, before he was married and came to Jefferson Co., Ala. We are still searching for his parents names. Still have no clue at all. He is buried at the HODGES Cememtery in Republic, Jefferson Co., Ala." Thomas was born in 1819 and Leroy in 1806. Granted I’ve seen some pretty big spreads among siblings in our families of that time period, but from your information, would it make sense that these two could be brothers and then John their father? I'd appreciate your opinion. Thanks

    3. You could share your photos with the appropriate website(s) of any county that is part of the nationwide usgenweb network. My home county in Viriginia is putting pictures of the tombstones (by cemetery) on their web site and I have contributed. Go to www.usgenweb.org to check it out. Surnames: Byrd, Frierson, Coker Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/CdB.2ACE/115.1.1 Message Board Post: The Aaron Frierson probate packet from Sumter District South Carolina gives William Beard as Aaron's Executor. William Beard is married to Sarah Frierson daughter of said Aaron Frierson. The main Frierson Family researcher, Mead Frierson can not find an unidentified Sarah Frierson of the right age and location to be the wife of George Byrd of Sumter District and MS. The assumption that the wife of George Byrd must be a Frierson was made based on the use of Frierson in the name of Samuel Ephriam Frierson Byrd who is either the son or grandson of George and Sarah () Byrd. Some researchers of George's family have placed SEF Byrd as the son of Donnon Byrd. George and Sarah's son Redden has always been listed as having only one wife Hannah Scott, but research in Sumter District indicates that Redden most likely was married first to Mason Coker who died around 1820 and apparently had no children for her husband Redden received all of her inheritance for her father. Redden and Hannah are my 3 great grand parents. Deborah Byrd
