    3. Mr. Charles Edward Westberry, age 58, of Jacksonville, FL, died Wednesday, September 21, 2005 after a short bout with lung cancer. Mr. Westberry was diagnosed on 16 May of 2005 which cut short his passion for genealogy. Mr. Westberry was affectionately known to his cyber friends as "Moses" taking that name from one of his grandfathers, the Reverend Moses Westberry, Sr., who is buried in the Bethlehem Baptist Church, Wayne Co., GA. Mr. Westberry had been researching his family roots for over 25 years, which led to the formation of a Westberry website on which he posted all of his findings. Love for genealogy was his life and he was responsible for putting together one of the largest Westberry genealogical collections to be found. Charles was born in New Orleans, LA. He was raised in the WACO State Home in Waco, TX. Mr. Westberry was a Vietnam Veteran. He spent 4 years in the USAF 1963-1967, including time at Holloman AFB, NM; Elmendorf AFB, Alaska; Phan Rang AB, Nam; Danang AB, Nam. He was assigned to the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing, "The Gunfighters" & the 389th Organizational Maintenance Squadron, "Phantom Phixer." Among his achievements, he earned the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal With Bronze Star, Small Arms Expert Ribbon, & the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon. He owned his own upholstery shop at one time in Houston, TX, and was a freelance photographer. One of his loves in life was motorcycles. He could be found frequenting the motor cross tracks with his camera. Charles had spent the past 5 years living in Jacksonville, FL, but he had previously lived in Seattle, WA before moving to Florida. His expertise was steel fitting and structural drafting and Computer Tech. He was preceded in death by his father James Edward Westberry, Sr., and a sister Eyvonne Marie (Westberry) Stewart. Mr. Westberry is survived by his mother, Lena Kathryn (McCain) Westberry; beloved family Matriarch Mary Catherine Westberry; 2 daughters: Jennifer Lynn Westberry and Tammi Lynn Westberry; and 1 son, Gary Gene Westberry; 3 sisters: Catherine Eyvonne Westberry, Carrie Ann Westberry and Virginia Ann Westberry; 4 brothers: Carey Madison Westberry, James Edward Westberry, John Henry Westberry, and Louis Gordon Westberry; 1 grandson; special friends Mr. & Mrs. William & Beverly Greer ( The Greers were taken into the Westberry family on the express desires of the Matriarch of the family, Mary Catherine Westberry, a pure blooded Westberry), a host of nieces and nephews and a whole host of friends. He had been in the Care of Community Hospice of NE FL of Jacksonville, up until the time of his death. In Lieu of flowers it is requested that you contribute money to help defray the costs of keeping the website going and help defray the costs of the funeral. Per his wishes, Mr. Westberry will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered in a private ceremony at the feet of his great-great grandfather, James Madison Westberry, a CSA (Civil War) Soldier. 3. Yes, but if you follow migration patterns from Georgia or South Carolina to Tennessee before 1800 chances are you may find where they originally settled when they came to the U.S. McKelvey is probably an Irish or Scottish name and a lot of them were Presbyterian, so wherever they settled would have been near their church or families of the same religion.. Also check other family names near where they lived. Yoy can check census records and see if there were any family members living close by or names associated with McElvey. Fran

    2. I'm looking for any and all info regarding my McElvy/McElvey family. Specifically, I'm looking for the parents, birth place and marriage of my g-g-g-grandfather. William McElvy was born 1778, married Barbary Reeves in 1779 and died in Decatur co, GA in 1842. I have him in Burke Co, GA in 1802, then in Tattnall Co, GA in 1820 and then in Decatur Co, GA in 1821. In a letter written by him, he states that his parents were of European origin and died during the revolution leaving him with out guardian. It is assumed that he is referring to the American Revolution. This family may be from Scotland or Ireland. I'm also looking for any info on this family from 1802 forward. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Liz Gerlits Palm Bay, FL

    3. Ellen, All I know is my Tom Reid had two children, a daughter (Willie Alice) and a son (unknown). I thought if I can find a Tom Reid and family in GA, on the 1860 census I could get some hint. I am not certain if they left with the wagon train from SC or GA or even another State. I wish I could tell you more because I know how brick walls make you feel. Maybe some day.... 1. 1900's migration - Sumter Co SC to Gainesville FL
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: MITCHELL Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/CdB.2ACE/212 Message Board Post: My 2nd great-grandparents Sam & Ermeline MITCHELL migrated (in their late 60’s) with their adult children and families from Sumter Co, SC to Gainesville, FL in the early 1900’s. In the surrounding census pages in 1910, I find others from SC, some of the names traceable to Sumter Co, SC. I’d like to commmunicate with some others whose family members migrated there as well. In addition to seeking possible relatives, I am currently researching some of the reasons for this migration – the specific forces that may have enticed them to leave Sumter Co, SC and the factors that made Gainesville attractive to an African American family. I’d love to chat with any others whose ancestors did the same or who has an interest in this topic. Regards, D. Green
