I'd be interested in the passenger list with Johnstons and Boyds. My Johnstons were in North Carolina first and then came to SC. Do you still have the citation for the passenger list? I have reason to believe the Boyds, Glenns and Johnstons intermarried before the Civil War. If you come across anything that might be pertinent I would surely appreciate hearing from you. My mom once told me that some of the family lands were flooded when Lake Wylie was formed. One of the census records of the family refers to my great grandfather as David when his name was Isaac David but it gave me a clue as to find his Civil War records with his brother's regiment. He was around 15 when he enlisted in the war and served with his oldest two brothers. In later years, he was known as ID by the family. It helps when you know the names of siblings. That being the case, Nancy, you should also check the NCroots since the areas you mentioned are North not South. Boyd is a well known name, just a matter of finding your own. Be happy to look into some of the reference books to see if your Boyds are there. You might look at Horry County, SC. There are Edge, Sasser, Alford, and Boyd families there. Lena, I do not know if this helps but there is a very active group on both of the Boyd family lists. I too am descended from Boyds from South Carolina and it is very difficult tracing them back. This knowing where they are buried and where they lived. My branch was largely displaced when the Catawba was dammed up. The name repetitions make it difficult to distinguish between families and it helps to have exact dates although many of the small cemeteries in the area are not listed on line. I an a direct descendent of William "Squire Billy" Glenn and Elizabeth Boyd Glenn. I am also descended from Thomas McGill Boyd and Terzah Clarke Faires Boyd. I am not certain whether these are the same family or two separate lines of Boyds. Good luck in your search. I know my grandmother's uncle was William Monroe Boyd (Buster Boyd) because my mother and her siblings knew him but there is either another group that is related to me or there is another man with the same name and di! fferent birth and death dates. It is very difficult distinguishing fact from fiction. Nancy Jane Smith Ward

Ann Crowley and I will be in Newberry on Monday October 17th 2005 to work with several local volunteers on getting the measurements of each tombstone in the Bush River Cemetery. This is a part of the project that we weren't able to tackle on the June 18th Survey Day. We want to preserve every detail possible about each tombstone and, of course, size is a primary factor in identification. If you are available that day, we invite you to join us. Although the work itself might not be too fascinating, you will never find a greater bunch of fellow workers! And there is always the possibility of new discoveries such as the 6 new tombstones we uncovered in June. We will probably be at the Cemetery from, say, 11 am to 3 pm since, unfortunately, Ann and I have to allow some time for travel. I hope that some of you might be able to join us. If you are thinking of coming, would you let me know, please, so we can be on the look out for you.
