CHAPIN, SC---Services for Louis A. Sheely, 65, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Horeb Lutheran Church with the Rev. Richard Webber officiating. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-7:30 this evening at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Chapin. The family will be at the residence, 429 Dutchman Shores Circle. Memorials may be made to the Bernardin Hospice House, 90 Finley Road, Columbia, SC 29203, or Mount Horeb Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 8, Chapin, SC 29036. Whitaker Funeral Home, Chapin, is in charge. Mr. Sheely died Thursday, June 1, 2000 at the Bernardin Hospice House, Columbia. Born in Newberry, SC, he was the son of Barnette Wilson Sheely & the late Lonnie A. Sheely. Mr. Sheely was a Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy, & was an electrical engineering graduate of the University of South Carolina. He completed the General Electric Manufacturing Management Program & retired from GE after 33 years of service, the last 27 years with GE Nuclear in Wilmington, NC. Mr. Sheely was a lifelong member and active participant in the Lutheran Church. Since moving to Chapin in 1994, he was a member of Mount Horeb Lutheran Church. Avidly interested in history & the craft of early American weaponry, Mr. Sheely was a member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, the Kentucky Rifle Association, a Life Member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Military Order of Stars & Bars, and the Confederate Stamp Alliance. He was also a member of the Elfun Society, a voluntary organization of GE leaders. Surviving are his wife, Barbara H. Sheely of the home; mother of Newberry; sons, Landon A. Sheely, Christopher J. Sheely, both of Raleigh, NC; sister, Connie S. Drake of Pendleton, SC; brother, James M. Sheely of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Elizabeth Louisa Sheely of Raleigh, NC; a large extended family.
