Doris, I was surprised that he didn't appear in the 1850 census. I'm working from Linda Cheek's transcription of the 1860 Census of Pickens District. Five of the men who bought at Francis Freeman's estate sale, Zadock Skelton, Isaac P. Poole, Martin Moss, John Ross, and John L. Fleming, all farmers like Francis, lived side by side in Cherokee Post Office district. (No Mrs. Freeman head of household listed in this area in 1860.) My thinking was that if these men were neighbors in 1860, they would have been neighbors to Francis Freeman in 1856. I'm looking at pages 26 and 27 in Linda's book, the 1860 census. I found some others in Pickens Court House Post Office. Thank you! Alice Freeman Hills [email protected]
