    1. [SCPICKENS] Robertson, Bowie, Chappell, Anderson
    2. Hi! While doing some research into one of my family lines, I came across a Bowie (of Pickens Co.) connection. So, I looked up some websites on the Bowie's and found a Robertson connection. Some of my family in Laurens Co, SC and Pickens/Oconee Co, SC married into a Robertson family. Since the families lived so close in what is now Oconee Co, I got curious about them. On the Oconee Co genweb site, the 1900 census lists Mary J. Robertson as a teacher along with her siblings, Cora A. and James A. both listed as teachers also and partners. There is also a Mattie I. as a teacher/partner and a Nancy A. as a partner. Mary Jane Robertson married Erskine Calhoun Bowie (son of George Franklin Bowie and Harriett Nimmons.) Her cousin, Thomas Boone Robertson married Nancy Keturah Bowie, a sister to Erskine Calhoun Bowie. My ggg-grandfather, James/John Chappell is supposedly buried in the old Bowie cemetery in Pickens Co (possibly the Nimmons cemetery.) His son, Andrew Jackson Chappell married Melinda Caroline Robertson who had moved to Pickens Co, SC from Laurens Co. Melinda was a 1st cousin to my gg-grandmother, Terrissa Gantt (who married Joseph G. Chappell). Mary Jane Robertson Bowie's father, William C. Robertson, was living close to Joseph and Terrissa Gantt Chappell in the 1860 Pickens Co census. Another odd coincidence is the fact that George F. Bowie, JR and Erskine Calhoun Bowie were living on Isaac Anderson's land. Harriett Nimmons Bowie's mother was Hester Anderson who was the daughter of Isaac Anderson. The name of Anderson has been passed down in the Chappell family. James/John Chappell and Abigail Boren named a son, Anderson W. Chappell. James and Abigail's son, John Wesley Chappell named a son, James Anderson Chappell. Their daughter, Nancy Abigail Chappell Smith named a son, James Anderson Smith. My g-grandparents, William Martin 'Fiddler Bill' Chappell and Eveline Patterson named a son, Arthur Anderson Chappell. So, that got me to wondering if I have an Anderson connection possibly through the Chappell or Boren line. I have not located parents for James Chappell nor Abigail Boren nor any siblings for either. I have a couple of possibilities for siblings on both of them. A James Boren married a Delilah Chappell-around the same dates and locations. George F. Bowie, JR, in an interview with Leon Anders and Sarah Hunt (when he was 94!!) told them that the Chappell's came from Newberry. His maw had told him so. He said 'Uncle' Jimmy Chappell came in and married, but he did not know who he married. He also said that you could not find the grave then probably as he was having some work done around there. So, possibly the Boren line may have an Anderson connection and that could be why James Chappell is buried there. If anyone has any information on any of these families or know of anything about them, please contact me. Thanks!!!!!!!!!! Patricia A. 3. Hello, I wish you could find your parents of Abigail BOREN! I feel that she must at least be related to John BOREN who left several children in the OPD and took several w/him when he migrated to KY or TN. I have been able to track them, but I just feel that Abigail fits in there somewhere. John B. BOREN (his wife was Sarah ALLEY?) had at least the following children that I am sure about: Margaret (b. 1779) md. Michael MILLER, Catherine Anne (b. 1790) md. Morris MILLER, James BOREN, Sr., William, John, Anna Jane, Agnes, Tarleton, Matthew (b. 1776), Francis (male), (b. 1782) md. Edith WIMBERLEY (also fr. OPD, a dau of Wm. WIMBERLEY and Martha BARBEE). I do have a great deal of info from several diff. historical journals on the BOREN families as well as several notes and many of the descendants. Glad to share; just write me, and let me know. Don't know if this will help you, but it may help someone on down the line who is searching for any of these BORENS. God bless, and may all your searches be fruitful!
