This reads to me like Lucy wasn't happy about debts being owed and the property being "hidden". State of South Carolina Sarah E. Martin, J. T. Youngblood, as Administrators, etal Against Lucy H. Spearman, etal, Defendants The following testimony was taken before me in the above stated case on the 9th day of December 1896, and the parties were present by their attorneys. Plaintiffs (Plffs) introduce in evidence the last will and testament of W. W. Martin dec’d from Probates office. J. T. Youngblood sworn says: "I am one of the administrator’s of the estate of W W Martin deceased. Mrs. Sarah E. Martin is also administrator. Dr. S. W. Clayton ? was named in the will as executor is dead. He died before W W Martin. There is about $200 of debts against the estate of W. W. Martin deceased. We have published a notice to debtors and creditors. We have no funds in hand with which to pay these debts. I made inquiry about personal property belonging to the estate of Mr. Martin and could find none that I knew was his. I ?? W. A. Martin give his consent to be joined in this suit as a plaintiff. If the debts are paid it will be necessary to sell a part of the land described in the complaint." X Mr. Martin died in Aug. 1896. Don’t know how much the land would make. I didn’t find any personal property that belonged to Mr. Martin. I only know what Mrs. Martin and her son says about their being no peronsal property. Don’t know anything about how much crop was made this year. We have made no return. J. T. Youngblood Silas A. C. Martin I am W W Martin’s son. Don’t know how much will be made on the land this year. I have sold three bales of cotton this year. I paid grains ?? account of some of it. 2 of the bales belonged to Carter Stewart and one bale to Sis Barnum. They paid no rent. Carter Stewart lived on the place. He made something over 2 bales of cotton. Don’t know how much corn he made. I have not measured it. He paid no rent. Don’t know what Sis was to pay. No one lived on the Crow Creek place. Mr. Newbery worked the lot in town. Father did not have any horses, cows, nor any personal property of any kind. I have owned all this property ever since last August a year ago. There are 2 cows, 1 horse and one mule. Don’t know how many bids ( or beds) nor how many hogs, I think about 7 or 8 of the latter. I have had 2 bales of my own crop ginned. Don’t know how much corn I will make. X I don’t pay any rent. S C Martin Mrs. Lucy H. Spearman: I am a daughter of W W Martin. There are 2 feather beds in the house. There are a 100 quilts, 3 burns (??), some trucks, chairs, 3 cupboards, safe, stove and coverlids, blanketts and ??? ??? things. I live about ¾ of a mile from the place. Don’t know how much was made on the place this year. This property was in the house that Pa lived in. Pa and Ma used the property. Lucy H. Spearman W. D.
