Wanted to send this - in the event anyone is interested in this family. Several days or a wk. ago, I posted the children of Joel R. JONES and his wf., Jane MCELREATH. This couple raised and left a large family in northern Pickens Co., SC. Here are the directions to this cemetery (Joel and Jane are buried here as well as quite a few of their children); my aunt and I went to it on Saturday: Leave Easley, SC, on Hwy. 135 and head north. Go past the Hwy. 186 turn that goes to Dacusville. Soon after you pass the new Mt. Tabor Church on the right, you will come to Dalton Rd. Turn right on Dalton Road, and then take a left on Hamilton Road. About 1/4 mi.+-, there is an old road bed on the left which is blocked off by a white pipe and cable. The road is also posted "No Trespassing." {We knew that the JONES still owned the land so we went on as my aunt was a JONES.} When you walk abt 1/8-1/4 mi. down the road bed, you will walk into a beautiful old clearing fenced in by a relatively new chain link fence, and the cemetery is there. From pictures that are abt 125 yrs. old, the cemetery still looks pretty much the same - a little more moss, a couple of large trees inside the fence, and of course, the stones look older, but it's a lovely serene spot which is a compliment to the family members that have taken care of the cemetery. It is my understanding that there is another JONES cemetery somewhere in Pickens Co., but this is the one that is in Vol. 1 of the Pickens Co. Cemetery books on p. 68. All the graves are still marked as well as quite a few that are not marked, but maybe have stones only. I hope this will help someone who needs the info. Oh, yes, there are several trees down on the road bed which you would need to climb over to get there, but I hope that's all the better to keep the vandals out! God bless, Dolores
Delores, Do you know who owns this property? I am trying to get my friend to visit Pickens and would like to visit this cemetery if I can.
