Delores, I found the following on a DeForest Miller. Miller, DeForest - Company A and B, 2nd SC Infantry Regiment. Born ca. 1839 in Pickens District, SC. Farmer in Pickens District in 1860. Enlisted as a private on July 1, 1862 in Colmubia, SC or at Pickens Court House. Wounded in action severely in thigh at Chickamauga, Georgia. Detailed at CSA Armory in Columbia May 24, 1864. Listed as deserter December 27, 1864. Captured and sent to Washington, D.C. from Burmuda Hundred, Virginia. Took oath and sent to Indianapolis, Indiana on January 3, 1865. There is another Miller in this unit who is from Pickens District, SC. There was the following information about him. Miller, J.A., Company E, 2nd SC Infantry Regiment. Lived in Pickens District, SC. Conscripted private on July 1, 1862 in Columbia, SC. Detached with Pioneers Corps December 31, 1862 and February 28, 1863. Admitted to Chimbarazo Hospital, Richmond, Virginia on May 11, 1863 with pleurisy. Died there the same day. Mar. Delilah (wife's name?). These are the only two Millers in the 2nd SC Infantry in which Pickens District is mentioned. There are also the following Millers in this unit. H. Miller, Jacob P. Miller (Greenville), John I. Miller, John C. Miller, Paul/Peter G. Miller, Robert S. Miller, Wellington Saxaby Miller (Greenville). Ronnie

This name is still used in our family, and my father's older brother is DeForrest MILLER who is 90 yrs. young! I believe that this J. A. MILLER is prob. Jesse MILLER, another brother who died.
